  1. pagoda cup - update

    So, after all the posts about the severe lack of lighting in my tank, I bit the bullet and added a 35 watt PC, for a total of 65 watts. Does anyone have any suggestions for the lighting schedule to acheive max benefit? As of Sunday, I have been leaving it on for 3 hours, and I plan to increase...
  2. Pagoda cup losing color

    So, after all the posts about the severe lack of lighting in my tank, I bit the bullet and added a 35 watt PC, for a total of 65 watts. Does anyone have any suggestions as what kind of schedule I need the light to be on to acheive max benefit? As of Sunday, I have been leaving it on for 3...
  3. Pagoda cup losing color

    Hey gang. I have a slight problem with my pagoda cup that I wanted to pose to the group. Over the last few weeks, I have noticed the color of the skeleton of the cup turning from a deep purple to a creamy white. For a while, the polyps were not opening as fully as they once were, but they are...
  4. keeping temp down

    Ok, so I removed the glass cover, which seemed to help lower the temp (along with the fan that I have aimed at the cover), but now I have discovered quite a bit of condensation on the light fixtures. My previous estimation of the light source being 8" away from the surface was slightly off -...
  5. clownfish

    I seem to recall seeing some for sale at Flying Fish Express, but then again, it might have been for black clowns. Worth checking out, anyway. Good luck finding one, Harrell
  6. keeping temp down

    For those of you who were wondering, my house is rather old, so even with the ac on a very low setting, much of what is gained is even more rapidly lost - setting it to 72 or lower would not accomplish anything, as I have found out from past experience! With the fan and the glass cover removed...
  7. Coralline.........Where art thou?

    My experience with coralline algae is rather limited, but it took mine a very long time (i.e. 6-7 months) to start to pop up. Once it did, however, it has almost been uncontrollable. Patience, my friend! Harrell
  8. keeping temp down

    Thanks everyone for the advice. I think I will first eliminate the glass cover and see how that helps out. Hopefully, that and a fan will solve the problem for the summer. Thanks again. Harrell
  9. keeping temp down

    Marco S I have considered eliminating the glass cover, but my lights are probably minimum 8" from the surface. Without the cover, wouldn't I run the risk of electrocution or salt buildup on my lights? I have also considered the chiller, but it is not a viable solution at this particular point...
  10. keeping temp down

    2poor Well, the ac has been running all day long, set for 76, and it is still 79. I directed a fan towards the top of the aquarium, and that seemed to help a little but not very much. Oh well, hopefully the heat will not last too much longer. Harrell
  11. keeping temp down

    Hey everyone. I have been having a really hard time keeping the temp in my aquarium below 82 during the day. My ac runs all day long, and my apt is still around 79. I am beginning to become concerned for my coral - the pagoda cup is no longer opening to its fullest, and the new star polyp...
  12. Ca++ OD

    Hi guys. I was wondering what the ramifications would be if Ca++ levels exceed 450 ppm. I will be out of town for a week, and some friends are taking care of my tank during my absence. While I trust their ability to take care of my fish, I'm concerned about their ability to accurately test...
  13. Ca++ OD

    Walter I guess my tank is fairly stable. I usually adjust once, sometimes 2x a week. I'm wondering if perhaps the pagoda cup and coralline algae have reached a temporary plateau in their growth spurts, thus the reason for not having to adjust it over the last 7 days. By the way, I am not...
  14. Curing LR and Water Changes

    I have heard other people say that they cure their live rock in a container outside the main aquarium, that way when it's cured the water can be thrown away. You'll need a large container, heater, power head for water movement, and a protein skimmer to help with waste removal. HTH, Harrell
  15. Places to get mated clown pairs?

    Marco Oops, my bad. It was Flying Fish Express that had mated clown pairs on their website. Harrell
