  1. SPS sand size?

I'm setting up a 120 gal SPS tank and was wondering if caribsea sugar sized agramax (0.2-1.2 grain size) is ok for SPS and clams. I really like the look of fine sand and the bed will be about 1" deep, but will the sand irritate the clams and SPS? I also have a metal halide question. I am making...
  2. Dolphin aqua sea pump?

Does anyone have one? Need a pump for my 120 and these look pretty good. Are they fairly quiet? Thanks for advice/info, Chris
  3. MH duration

The problem is that the only supplemental lighting I will have are 2 55 watt 24" atinic PC's. These won't give much light. Maybe I'll just have to add more suplemental lighting, another set of 55's with 50/50's? Should I not expect more SPS growth from longer lighting MH periods?
  4. Lava rock for live rock?

Has anyone used lava rock instead of live rock. I know it wouldn't look good covered with coraline, but I think it would hold up a lot longer than live rock. Its probably even more porous as well, and super cheap! Any pics of lava rock reef setups???
  5. MH duration

Is there anything wrong with leaving 2 250 watt 10k MH's on for 8-10 hrs a day depending on season? Any negative effects this might cause to either the bulbs, equipment, or inhabitants including SPS
  6. Pump intake outake size?

    What about the outake?
  7. Lifespan of Coral Banded Shrimp

Since they are all wild caught, it probably just reached the end of its lifespan, especially if it was bought as a near adult. Thats my guess especially if everything else in your tank is doing fine. Chris
  8. Pump intake outake size?

If I get a pump the does about 1200gph and it says 1" outake and intake, is there anything wrong with using 1.5"intake and 1.25" outake, then reducing when I get to the pump? I would think it would only put less strain on the pump but wanted to double check. Thanks, Chris
  9. phosphate reactor?

Is a "phosphate reactor" pretty much a tube filled with carbon or is there a specific media?
  10. perpendicular vs. parallel MH setup

I just purchased two spider reflectors, perpendicular?
  11. Will my 150 tank someday fall into our basement?

water movement from walking by is not good, had the same problem with current 55 gal on hardwood floor until I moved, now its on a concrete slab. Used to make me very nervous. If its over the basement it shouldn't be to hard to add support with some 4x4's. Not worth the risk IMO
  12. polished aluminium source?

Anyone know where I can get polished aluminum. Been looking and no luck so far, need it in two foot lenghts.
  13. $500 for a very simple wavemaking concept!!??!!

I don't think that would be rigid enough to support lifting almost 16 lbs of saltwater above water line
  14. perpendicular vs. parallel MH setup

Why do many reefers mount lights parallel to the tank. It seems to me that if the light is perpendicular to the back of the tank one would utilize a lot more light. With the reflector in an arc shape, it seems a lot of light will come out on sides of bulb so why not direct lenghtwise instead of...
  15. $500 for a very simple wavemaking concept!!??!!

The tunze wave box is nothing more that a box with a plunger type design that is airtight and pulls water up, then either releases the plunger or pushes the plunger down to force water back out of the hole at the bottom of the box, I can't tell. Either way, there is no flippin way it is worth...
