  1. I can't find Knucklehead's SCWD plumbing picture

Thanks Modo! That is what I was looking for. I'm not sure why I thought it was a Knucklehead post, maybe he made a reference to Sparklingfloorservice in one of his posts as well. Now I get measure for my own version and glue a bunch of PVC. Sweeeeeet...
  2. I can't find Knucklehead's SCWD plumbing picture

I swear I saw a nice picture from Knucklehead that demonstrated a good plumbing scheme for the SCWD wavemaking device. Can anyone help me find it again?? Thanks in advance for your help. Jeff
  3. Condensation on bottom of tank?

I think I figured out what is really causing the "condensation." So, the skimmer collection cup has an air escape hole in it, and this is only 6-7 inches from the bottom of the tank. I think this is whats causing all the problems. I just bought a couple of those old school carbon/floss...
  4. Condensation on bottom of tank?

I do have a fan blowing on the external pump down there. Good call. I think there is a problem with the bulkhead(s) though as well. I am familiar with the "dusting" you describe, and I have some of that too, but this is "wetter" for lack of a better word to describe it. I had one of these...
  5. Condensation on bottom of tank?

Thanks Len, will do. I may have to buy some new ones. Anyone have an opinion on the best manufacturer?
  6. Condensation on bottom of tank?

I forgot to add that the underneath of the tank is never wet during the day. The salt is still there, but no water. I have seen it covered in dropplets late at night.
  7. Condensation on bottom of tank?

Thanks for such a quick response Len! The entire underneath is covered in salt. Its weird. When I had a cover on the sump, that would always have water covering the underneath of it, and I always assumed it was condensation. The bulkheads have salt creap around them, but there is not a...
  8. Condensation on bottom of tank?

Hello everybody, I have a 75 gallon oceanic tank with an overflow box on one of the narrow ends of the tank, in the middle. That leads to an amiracle wetdry that I gutted and use as my sump. I also have a small refugium tucked underneath the tank, on a shelf. Both of these are not covered...
  9. 40 breeder, need advice...

The trim on tanks is purely decorative. I have seen center braces built into the molding, but the bottom one is there just to hide the edges and silicone. Don't worry about it, unless of course the silicone is very old.
  10. Durso standpipe

I see what you mean now. That is a good idea. I am happy that my own fix is working now, so I think I might wait to modify it again. Every time I try to make an improvement on my tank, it causes all kinds of other problems. But that is why I enjoy the hobby right? Thanks again. Jeff
  11. Durso standpipe

I enlarged the hole a bit more and that seems to have cured the problem at least temporarliy. I think I just had to go big enough to account for water tension from a drop that lands on the hole. What are you talking about with the air line tubing? Did you make the hole really big and then put...
  12. Durso standpipe

I forgot to say what diamter PVC I used, it is 1.5" and my tank has a 1" bulkhead.
  13. Durso standpipe

Hello all, I just completed my Durso standpipe and I am quite pleased with the results. Thanks for the plans Rich. I do have one issue with it though. The hole I made for air at the top of the cap is just the right size, but water tends to splash up from underneath and constricts the size of...
  14. alkylinity

Thank you both for the input! I have to say, smokin reefer, that is an awsome alias. Thanks again for clearing that up for me, I think I have always been confused by the fact that everyone strives for an alkylinity value of 4 meq/L. Jeff
  15. alkylinity

Hello All, I just performed an experiment and would like some input on the results. I tested the alkylinity in my tank using a Salifert test kit. It is 3.31 meq/L, not optimal , but acceptable. I also did the same test on a fresh bucket of salt water that I made for a water change. I...
