  1. Is a mystery predator eating my nudibranch?

I managed to get a mirror and a torch angled to see partly down the hole, no sign of the Nudi, all I can see is whitish thing with an appendage in front (slightly pink) it fills the diameter of the hole, the 'arm' moved when I shone the torch down. I have no idea what it is...... Thanks for...
  2. Is a mystery predator eating my nudibranch?

After talking to a LFS at the weekend - I got a nudibranch (white and pink body - orange branch and feelers) - it/he/she was fine for both days - until last night - there he/she/it was gliding over the LR as it does then the next time I looked (30 minutes later)...... 8O why has it stuffed its...
  3. coraline algae

I've had my Mini-Reef for about 3 perhaps 4 months - Coraline algea has recently started to grow (last 4 or 5 weeks) - it started on the side glass but has now spread to some equipment, and it's pretty hard to get off glass with a srubber. Just wait - keep doing water changes and keep an eye on...
  4. Cleaning Curved Glass

I've done a search and can't find the answer to - How do you clean curved (bow fronted) tanks if coraline algea has started to grow on it? I've not got a bow front (yet) but on my current Micro Reef tank removing coraline from the sides can be a real (insert your own expletive here  ) to...
  5. Falling Turbo Snails

A Larger water change say 50% plus would remove half of the problem (If the soap is indeed the problem) where as to remove half with 10% water changes would take at least 5, 6 or more for the same result. Just match the current SG and Temp as close as possible - use the same salt mix as you...
  6. pulsing xenia

Resurrected: What are the best parameters for pulsing xenia.. Mine specimen being only a few days in the tank is currently fine, however I am a little concerned that my params may not be ideal for it. Currently at 0 are Amm, Nitrite. Nitrate <10 Phos <0.035 SG 1.023 PH 8.0-8.1 Currently I...
  7. Surface Scum

The tank has a complete hood - so at present a skimmer is not possible - I should however be able to modify the filter flow to accept the fluval surface skimming thing - If only I could find a source for them in the UK. Are these things a recent innovation (i.e this century) as it takes a while...
  8. ID: Oddity in 20H tank - Aptasia??

.. Zoanthid... Of course... [noob alert] Checked out some pics and it does look similar to one.. After having several small Aptasia in the tank - and no 'good' hitchhikers I immediatly assumed it was a bad guy... Thanks - I dont think i'll remove this one - i'll leave it to see what it does...
  9. Ecotech Marine Vortech propeller pump

From the above posts - it would seem that this pump can only be mounted on the side of some aquaria - those that have a built-in in-tank area at the rear (Aqua-Medic) would find that rear mounting would prove problematic if not impossible. I am correct in this - I don't have an Aqua-medic - but...
  10. Surface Scum

Thanks for the replies.. Can't get a skimmer in the tank - it's a Aqua one 620 - the way it is designed prevents easy skimmer attachment. The paper towel idea sounds ok - I presume most paper towels are ok as long as they are not coloured. Thanks.
  11. ID: Oddity in 20H tank - Aptasia??

I have a perhaps 1cm disc, grayish center, brown ring with what look like spines on the perimeter perhaps 2 or 3mm in length. It stands proud of the rock surface by 3mm or so, attached to the rock with a 2mm tube. All of this is a brownish colour and so are the spines. Not taken a photo yet -...
  12. Surface Scum

I seem to have persistent surface scum.... Its a 20H (90L) tank - no skimming, a 550LPH filter unit with mainly mechanical filtration, some rowaphos and purigen in it. A 900LPH circulation pump. I have tried using a vigourous bubble stream from the circulation pump - but this does not seem to...
  13. Ricordia's

Resurrected........ Do these have the same requirements for other 'mushroom' corals. As in same watermovement, lighting feeding etc. Or are they too difficult for a noob to keep.... (1st reef tank, 1st SW tank, 20G and only has a sacrophtyon plus critters, a peppermint and 2 'nemos' - kids...
  14. T5 Lighting

Most vendors seem to supply MHs with T5 actinics... Must be a reason for it. Perhaps MH like the correct frequency punch in that range - or the T5s can be used to allow a lower light start to the day...
  15. ID:Odd brown are on edge of sacrophyton

Ok... Tweezers wouldn't touch it. 8O So.... I used the edge of a glass scrapper pad - that moved it. It has left the flesh white but I scrubbed as lightly as I could. Some bits remain - so I may need to do it again. But I'll wait a while. Hope the white just means i've removed a top layer...
