I just noticed some whitish growths on the side of one of my clownfish just behind his gills. The little guy has been in the main tank for about a week. He has just spent four weeks in quarentine with a tang and another perc.
Does anyone know what this growth is? The picture isn't that great...
I'm thinking of installing a durso standpipe but I'm wondering about the drain from the bulkhead fitting to my sump. The standpipe should be 1 1/4" to the 1" bulkhead but do I make it 1 1/4" from the bulkhead to the sump or is my existing 1" stuff ok?

I had the same problem with Cyno and hair algae. It cleared up after three or four months. I also cut back a bit on feeding. The fish get as much as they can eat in a minute once a day. The cyno is pretty much gone.
What size of pipe did you use? You usually get the flushing sounds because too much water is trying to go through the downcommer and it starts to back up. When the backed up water reaches a certain level in the downcommer, there is sufficient gravity force to empty.
If you are going to install a pump to maintain the level in your small reservoir, why bother with the drip at all and just have the pump discharge run straight into your tank off a float switch in the tank (or sump)?
My buddy said he got it from a tidal area. He walked up to the rock at low tide.
I'll drop him in my QT and see how he does. I'd rather try to keep him going then to just dump him in the trash.
A friend of mine from the west coast brought me an abalone that he picked up off the rocks by his house. It still has barnicles on it and they are still alive.
Shoiuld I put it in my tank? it is a FOWLR with four green chromis in it. I thought I would quarentine it first but I don't know for...
I found a picture of the same thing I have in my tank. I think its a polyp but I don't have much for lighting and I thought that corals need lots of light. I've 2 x 10,000K NO and 1 x actinic NO.
I had let it feed on Nori once a day and there was always excess left over each day when I fed it.
I supplemented once a week with Mysis shrimp. I'm thinking that the amonia spike was a little too much for him. The tank did a mini cycle over the course of the first week he was in there...
