  1. Downsizing from 90 gallon FOWLR to small reef...suggestions?

Hi! I definitely agree that downsizing is an essential step if you move frequently! Carrying a 90 gallon aquarium and buckets full of LR around everywhere is just not fun or recommended. :) I have a 24 gallon FOWLR and I love it, but since you're going more for the corals and less for the fish...
  2. Switching from Reef to Fish Only

Removing the LR at this point would be counterproductive. LR is pretty on its own, especially in an established aquarium, and really helps with the biological filtration. I recommend keeping all of it in there (the fish will thank you for it by thriving!) and going FOWLR.
  3. Snapguide tutorial on FOWLR basics

Hello everybody! I'm a Snapguide user, and I couldn't find any tutorials about how to set up a FOWLR tank... So I made one! It's here: http://snp.gd/eaqzpg. What do you folks think? Did I miss anything vital? Thanks for taking a moment to check it out!
  4. Green Hair Algae Mystery

Just a quick question: is your tank near a window? Natural sunlight can be a hair algae stimulant... I know you said your tank has been set up for 3 years with no problems, so this is just a shot in the dark, but I figured it couldn't hurt to ask!
  5. Lionfish: it's what's for dinner

Wow JohnHenry that's a lot of lionfish! I bet they were good eatin'! :D
  6. Lionfish: it's what's for dinner

The article links to this: http://www.lionfishderby.com/. I think that's a great idea! Pass me some tortilla chips and lionfish http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ceviche! Mmmmmmm! Tasty and nutritious and I'm doing my part to keep U.S. reefs diverse!
  7. clown triggers for a while....

Krill and live crabs would be great food for a trigger, also I heard about feeder snails from one of the puffer links here: topic137240.html. Have you thought of a Humu(humunukunukuapua'a) trigger or a Niger trigger? They get big but not so big as a Clown I don't think, plus they're pretty in...
  8. Had a stroke a few months ago, im now force too call it quit

Whether in the end you choose to stay in the hobby or not, I hope you stick around here and keep us posted! I'd love to know what you decide to do next (of course I'm [not-so-] secretly hoping you stay in the hobby in some form or another)!
  9. Filing down a puffer's teeth?!

Thanks so much for the help you guys are awesome!!! I'll definitely post again here if/when I decide/figure out the best and cheapest way to do it!
  10. Filing down a puffer's teeth?!

Hello everyone! I was just wondering, what do you do for a puffer that won't scrape LR to file its own teeth down? I have a tiny toby/sharpnose puffer who is now literally long in the tooth and I think it could use some filing. Has anybody actually done this? If so, how? I don't want to...
  11. Coralline algae

You will be very, very fortunate if you have so much coralline algae that all visible surfaces of your rocks are covered by it! & by the time that happens, there will be plenty of bene's everywhere. Not to worry!
  12. Sean's 20 Gallon FOWLR Aquapod/Sunpod

Well, it's been a while since I've posted, and lo! I've moved again, along with my traveling fish. I think I'll stay put a while now! All the remaining 5 fish are happy, but as I mentioned in another thread my beloved Frank the Bubble Tip is dead, killed by a surprisingly aggressive series of...
  13. Fish sitting.

I like the reef club suggestions, and won't knock 'em, but most clowns will eat flakes... Have you considered purchasing an automated feeder for those weeks? Much cheaper than a fish sitter... Just a suggestion!
  14. Anemone abuse!

  15. Anemone abuse!

Thanks, seamaiden. Yes, Frank will be missed. And honestly, I'll miss Rocky too, but he is definitely an invert murderer and I don't think he's a good fit in my otherwise peaceful tank!
