  1. What would be the ULTIMATE cleanup crew for my new 75?

How new is brand new? Hermits can go in fairly early. My blue-leg and burgundy hermits are always busy. I went with a higher number of blue-legs as they are less fiesty. My emerald crab is the best algae eater of the bunch and fun to watch. Note - females have smaller claws. My sally...
  2. Double RiteLite Fixture Plus LED update

Lowes now has several new Ritelite PC worklight models including a 2x13 watt with independant switches for each bulb and a extra grounded outlet. It also has 2 hangers. The only negative is the length of the fixture/grip as the ballast is built-in. A plus though for those who dislike bulky...
  3. PVC risers for Live Rock with DSB

I would take a picture but all those sandbed critters with their heads bashed in from running into the eggcrate are pretty disgusting  Actually, you can't tell I used it as it is all buried under another 1/2"-1" of sand. If the rock was flat and smooth as bricks I would maybe buy into...
  4. Deep Sand Bed?

Are you planning on live rock? If so you may want to consider dropping the bio-wheel out of the filter and just using charcoal when the need arises. I don't have bad bio-wheel experiences to relate but my LFS, which I trust, pulls them from all their eclipse hoods.
  5. PVC risers for Live Rock with DSB

I used 3" sections of 3/4" pipe. Cut a cross on top with a hacksaw and pressed a sheet of eggcrate into the crosscuts. I left a 5" space on one end and 3" across the front in case I wanted to add a tunnelling critter. Myh reasoning was that I felt the portion of the rock that would be buried...
  6. Lap Blennie

He is more of a puppy than any other fish I have had. When I got home he was in the corner of the tank watching me come in the room. Then he came up to the top of the rocks when I opened the top and took a few pellets as I dropped them one by one. The sexy shrimp don't seem to fear himeither...
  7. Lap Blennie

I am at my local LFS watching what looks like a black lawnmower blennie in a rubble tank. He wasn't shy and everytime I walk up he comes to the front to watch me. I'm thinking there's plenty of algae in my 29 to keep him busy and he ate the herbivore pellets on command like a puppy. So like...
  8. Sea lettuce nudibranchs

They are light green and have a ruffled look. It would be hard to spot in a pile of iceberg lettuce. I think I saw one for sale recently at a shop website mentioned here. Maybe IPSF?
  9. 29 Dragonet 3 weeks

I am keeping an eye on the algae. The LFS started a 12 at he same time as my tank. The only differences were that they made a bigger effort to remove detritus after curing the rock and they added 20 scarlet hermits early whereas I went with 3 scarlets and 5 bluelegs initially in a tank twice...
  10. 7 Gallon Nano Reef Pics

Fishgod, You made the right choice with the mandarin. Hopefully, he'll get a big reef to play in. If you can find a red (cherry) head goby that hasn't been conditioned to heavy/multiple daily feedings of prepped food it should make a nice fish for a small nano. I believe it eats pods in...
  11. Lighting a 12gal

I have a powerquad over my 29 in one of those inexpensive wood slat canopies. I also have the folding glass cover underneath. With a room temp of 71 the light keeps the tank around 77. I will probably need to drill some vent holes around the sides of the canopy or maybe add a fan before this...
  12. 29 Dragonet 3 weeks

Now at about six weeks there is some life and algae. 14 hermits, 8 blue + 6 burgundy 10 snails, 5 marguerita +5 nasarius 2 crabs, 1 mithrax/emerald + 1 sally lightfoot 2 sexy shrimp 2 LPS corals 1 candy cane caulastrea + 1 branching frogspawn A medium 18" CPR Aquafuge is now hanging on back...
  13. Mandarin Dragonet / copepods

Wow! Thats better than mirrors over the bed! Must drive the ladies wild! Actually, what size is that but ugly tank and is there rubble piles in it?
  14. keeping shrimp

My two new Sexy Shrimp have made it past the 24 hr mark. The big one is waving her fanny under the Branching Frogspawn. Maybe she likes the spots. The little guy seems fine but I don't think he's checked out much of the tank yet.
  15. keeping shrimp

I love critters with an attitude :D I am trying sexy shrimp at 6 weeks but they haven't taken right off like the crabs did. The only shrimp I will definitely avoid are the coral banded as they seem to have a killer instinct as well as an attitude.
