It's the emerald crabs. I would DEFINITLY bet on it. I've caught them eating zoanthids on many many occassions. Take out the emeralds and I think your disapearing zoa problems will be gone forever. Dennis

I would say that the majority of the problem is in the low alkalinity. Hair algae does NOT like low alkalinity. Stop using Oceanic salt. It contains WAY too much Ca which bottomes out your alkalinity. Use some buffer and get you dKH up to about 12 or so. That should put a dent in the algae...

I used it SEVERAL time also with no damage to any of the four shrimp in my tank. I think it effecting shimp is a more rare than it is normal. Dennis

If you're interested in adding alcohol to your reef, check out the Mark Weiss line of products. Reef Vital and Reef DNA. IMO, they are nothing more than fermenting apple juice. Provide an AWSOME carbon source for all the beneficial bacteria. Party on!! Dennis
