  1. Queen Conchs: What are your experiences?

I asked Dr. Ron about this. He said that the queen and fighting conchs are two separate species. He also said that his queen that he bought two years ago at one inch long is now a massive nine inches long. He said that each conch needs about 2 square feet of sand surface to feed (at least)
  2. What the heck is this???

It may be calciferous algae. It looks kind of like a neon green q-tip....
  3. Cycling Water w/ live rocks

I agree with Tybond that it's very possible, since I did it, but I differ on some of the details. First, you don't NEED a sand bed if you don't want one. The reason live rock works to cycle your tank is that it has both the dead stuff on it and the bacteria to eat it up. Whatever you use for...
  4. Snail Question

So you would just scrape the front and sides and not worry about snails?
  5. Snail Question

I'm fine with doing some scraping, but I would like some help too.... :-) I'd like to avoid things that eat corraline for now, although I think that sea urchin actually helps spread it around by grinding it up....
  6. Snail Question

I'm finishing up my cycling of my 75 gallon with 75 lbs. of rock. I did have one crab and a bunch of snails and/or nudis make it in with my rock, but apparently not enough. I'm now facing a micro bloom, and I'm getting sick of scraping. I know I could reduce my light and/or keep scraping, but...
  7. --= Best deal on Aragonite sand? =--

That's where I'm going to be! In Destin! So it's not legal to take any sand from there? Can I do any good snorkeling there from the beach, or do I need to go on a boat somewhere?
  8. --= Best deal on Aragonite sand? =--

Catspaw, are you sure it's illegal? I asked the other day and someone said you are allowed to take one bucket a day.... I ask because I'm going to be down there next week, and I was hoping to get some real live sand to seed a dsb I'm planning....
  9. Ammonia, Nitrites, and Nitrates, OH MY!!!!

Well, I've gotten an RO unit now. I'm using it for top offs. Maybe I'll just start aggressively changing water to take some of that crap out.
  10. Ammonia, Nitrites, and Nitrates, OH MY!!!!

No animals yet. Just cycling with rock. I filled initially with tap water, assured by my LFS that doing so was OK because the chlorine would be evaporated out in plenty of time.
  11. Ammonia, Nitrites, and Nitrates, OH MY!!!!

Ok. I started cycling my tank 12 days ago. It's a 75 gallon. I put in 2 big bags of CC and 63 lbs of live rock. I have since added another 12 lbs of rock. My ammonia and nitrates are at zero. My nitrates, however, are at about 15ppm. At a future time, I plan to install a dsb with macro...
  12. Live sand from ocean?

    So It's legal, right?
  13. Live sand from ocean?

Has anyone ever scooped live sand out of the ocean and used it in their tank? I'll be visiting the gulf of mexico next week, and could easily bring some sand back to seed a sand bed....
  14. Crazy brain storm

Assuming you keep your house at 72* FH, you wouldn't necessarily need to run it through the ground, where it WILL FREEZE (where you are anyway). You could just run it through some pipe in your house. the air would cool it off. esp if the pipe ran through a fresh water pool of some kind. That...
  15. HELP!! Clam in trouble?

I would consider throwing in your friend's towel!!!!
