  1. Plenum or deep sand bed

I have a plenum with a 3" d protected sandbed above and 3" of unprotected sand above that. It has been set up like this for 10 years -- my tank is 30" d. I see no advantage to setting it up this way except that it made the tank shallower for me to work in. For asthetic reasons the sand...
  2. Blue-eyed Anthias Behavior ?

You really hit the nail on the head... I need to change my bulbs and recharge the sandbed. I do have some Emerald crabs but noticed 2 bodies/shells just recently and my snail population is dwindling -- I think my hermit crabs are to blame -- not the red legs but I have left handed & blue legged...
  3. Blue-eyed Anthias Behavior ?

Hi Andy, Thank you so much for all the information! I am guessing that I didn't concentrate enough of the feeding.... I feed only once a day. I am having some problems that I just recently noticed.... I have had a lot of fine particulate matter covering my live rock and sandbed. I have a 6"...
  4. Blue-eyed Anthias Behavior ?

Hi Andy, Do you recommend the Pseudanthias squamipinnis or the male or bunch / harem? I will need to do more specific research before I get another Anthias. I don't know much about fish and I never kept many in my reef. Thanks for your time. Pam
  5. Blue-eyed Anthias Behavior ?

Thanks Andy & Mario, I should have posted sooner.... your advice was great - but I waited too long. I was feeding mashed up raw shrimp. I couldn't find him for days and then by the time I did see him it was too late and I couldn't get him out of the reef in time to save him and he died. I...
  6. Blue-eyed Anthias Behavior ?

I have a 235 gallon reef tank with lots of live rock. My tank inhabitants (fish) are: an 18"L Engineer Goby, a 2" L Blackcap Basslet, a 4" L Clarkii Clown - (Wild caught) and a 1" L Fourline Wrasse. I recently got a 2" L Blue-eyed Anthias. The Anthias has been in the display tank for almost...
  7. Help with Identification of a fish

Actually my tank is a mess now. The size is 72 w x 30 h x 24 d. I have a 100 gal sump but with the displacement of 200 + / - lbs of live rock/rubble, a 6" sand bed and overflows. I actually have 270 gallons of water in the system. This tank was set up 9 years ago as a combo Jaubert /...
  8. Nitrate and general help.

Sorry, what is your question tah532?
  9. Nitrate and general help.

< tiny ones, my largest is 1.5" diameter and they don't grow more than that. They are all white and are all over the Hitchhicker forum. They are true brittelstars, > Yep Mihai, those are the sand stars I meant, never knew them to be "true brittlestars" learn somthing new every day I guess...
  10. Nitrate and general help.

Whith regard to the suggestion : <to get a few tiny brittle stars from a local reefer.> Don't get green brittle stars as they get huge and will eat your fish, red serpent stars are better. -- I think what Mihai might have been suggesting were tiny sand stars... not brittle stars
  11. Cerith eggs

the Cerith eggs I am talking about are white and laid in a zig zag pattern about 5-6 inches long on the glass. They stay in place for less than a week and then they are just "gone". I have seen the strand start to pull away from the glass but never witnssed any hatch - just curious that the...
  12. Cerith eggs

I have never witnessed a "hatch' but I do notice that off all the snail varietys I have had the Cerith is the only one that doesn't eventually dwindle off in my 240 gallon tank - I often wondered if these snails actually are hatching and I just don't see it happen - as stated earlier they seem...
  13. Help with Identification of a fish

Thanks Matt, he is a cool fish, I use to have a pair but sadly the smaller of them died a couple of years ago. I just had no idea they got so BIG.... I rarely see him completely out from under the rockwork he is quite shy - sometimes when the lights are out he comes completely out but otherwise...
  14. Help with Identification of a fish

OK Before you tease me..... the Goby is not tallking to me.... It is the shape of his mouth that is like a Goby rather than an Eel..... <smile>
  15. Help with Identification of a fish

Thank you HClH2OFish, That is what I was thinking eel too but behavior and his mouth kept saying goby - but he is sooooo big and I keep seeing engineer goby with a white stripe down the back and his markings looked like a snowflake eel. Thought I bought a "pig in the poke" hee hee..... Anyway...
