  1. Rust colored algae?

No RO/DI...I will switch it...I know I should...I have to go walmart to get it from the culligan filter. However, this is darker and more like a sludge than what I believe is a diatom. My experience is the diatoms usually look like a light brown algae and is present with a new set up...this...
  2. Rust colored algae?

System...75 gal, with about 2.5 watts per gallon of PC lights, berlin style, prizm skimming with a canister filtered that is maintained often. This system has softies. This is an established aquarium that I maintain for hobbie cash. The delimma is there is this brown-rust colored film over...
  3. Feather Caulerpa

Today I went to a friends home to view their reef and acquire a tridacna that is dulled from low light. I have MH and my clam is doing great. All my corals are doig great. I am a bit disturbed that her reef looks better than mine...because I gave the advice while she was building her softy...
  4. Adding bacteria to an established reef aquarium

I just recently obtained a job a the LFS. The owner and the workers say to add microbe lift on a regular basis, because the beneficial bacteria dies off and this will recharge your tank. I think this is rediculas because once the cycle is complete additional bacteria is not needed. Also...
  5. PH too high

Lets see what the results will be after calibration and with the test kits, with respect to Ca and Alk. There is no doubt, the macro's are consuming Co2...and there is at least a swing that I think is a concern. I want to learn to keep it within range and stable.
  6. PH too high

I read the article. I ordered the Pin Point solution already, before reading. It is not in the red on the chart in the article and it appears to be, on the average within .1 range. That is the best I can do right now.
  7. PH too high

I am no longer adding CO2. Ordered the solution along with a Ca and Alk/PH test kit. I will post my results, when received. The probe is "lab grade". I will compare it with the test kit at the PH peek and low. No Calcium deposits on my power heads. I have more confidence in the PH probe...
  8. PH too high

    AAahhh! No calibration solution.
  9. PH too high

    I will calibrate it now.
  10. PH too high

For now I placed the majority of the macro in my refugium...This should keep the PH a little more stable...True the mangrove roots consume oxygen, leaves are above water level, thus no CO2. Continueing yeast CO2 for now. A montipora will be a great addition...going to the local coral farm this...
  11. PH too high

I am testing PH with a PH probe on an aqua controller Jr. Its about a month old, was already calibrated when I received it. I don't think its time for a calibration, but I could do one anyway. Also, it is next to my return sump pump. As far as Ca and Alk, no test kit yet...I will get one and...
  12. PH too high

Simple question, complicating answer. My PH ranges from 8.3 to 8.9. It is high during the day light cycle on my main tank...Lots of macro in the main tank. Low at night in the refugium alternate light cycle, lower powered lights as well, with a mangrove. There is Photosythesis during both...
  13. Starry Dragonette

Greetings, Recently obtained a red scooter Blenny from a friend who just could not care for it in his nano. After I explained its eating habits, he gave it to me. He is skinny, but not too skinny. I just ordered some live Ocean Pods from Ocean Pods to supplement my current bio load of...
