I have 90 display and 30 refugium. Several stonies, zoos, polyps etc... I thought of a reactor but expensive. I'm not recommending this method because everyones situation is different but it works fine - I put about 3-4 teaspoons of kalk in a 16 oz bottle and shake it up with reverse osmosis...
Thanks for the replies. No real room for another container under there. Drilling near the top of the sump makes sense- install a bulkhead and say 1" drain? What do you recommend to drill the plastic/plexglas with? I'm thinking a spade bit might not be a good choice.

My sump will not quite hold the volume that drains back during a power failure - the drilled hole for creating a siphon from the refugium works and the main overflow eventually stops but I know it will overflow the sump by some margin. Is there a suggestion for some safety net or plumbing to...
Sounds silly but I wish I had a bit of hair algae. Evertime I bring some in on a newly purchased zoo etc...my Tangs cleanit up in less than a day. They like it better than nori or romaine. My numbers are Ca - 420, dKh - 6.

Have a 90g that is 23" deep running metal halides and actinics.
Considering moonlights for three reasons:

2. helps corals?
3. Enjoy night time viewing
Would appreciate opinions/knowledge on use of - and brands to consider. I hear 475nm in the correct...
I use a 30g and keep the r/o water same temp as tank. Once at temp, I add salt to the correct sp gr - then i know it is temp corrected from the beginning. I keep it mixed and moving w a pump and aerator for typically 3-5 days before using.

I had a Aqua C remora - worked wonders - then upgraded to the Aqua C 180. Sold the Remora and got an email from the new owner - it is kickin it for him on a 55g as well.
GET the Maxijet 1200 pump w it.

Agree totally with everyone re water changes. For those who don't think water changes are important, seal up your house and breathe the same air for a month - then do the math/chemistry on that - if you have enough o2 left that is......
I had a long-tentacle anemone that ate my coral-banded shrimp. Very aggressive anemone - moved all over the tank daily. Took him back to the LFS for credit.
I keep my Mandarin in the refugium - 20g on a 90 display. Seems to be plenty of small critters for him/her to eat. I keep live rock and chaeto in the refug. When I harvest the chaeto I notice many pods/critters running about. The Mandarin seems fine- hasn't slimmed out in about 5 months.
