Laffs....yup, it's amazing how good of a job macro is with absorbing nutrients. You don't realize it until you've cut back on your macro too much (been there).

justletmein, yup...it's the DI that removes most of yer phosphates....

Mine was leaking in the same place - even with the washer. I had to tighten the crap out of the inner nut to get it to quit - to the point of disfiguring the washer a bit...but it finally stopped. Been running leakless for months.

Ditto Hippo's comments. Tried removing the skimmer on my 10-gal for a month.....the algae bloom was uncontrollable, and I'm using RO/DI water. Had to attach it again for algae control. Oh, and I was doing weekly 10% water changes while skimmerless. My advice would be.... If you want to try...

I've got a Maxi 400 (106 gph), and it's very quiet, although it tends to raise my tank temp about 2 degrees. Don't have any exp. w/wavemakers, so can't help you there. Oh, and I'm new to this board, but not to reefing.... Good luck!

Was the salinity in the new tank exactly the same as the tank you took them out of? Reason I ask - Astreas are very sensitive to changes in salinity.
