  1. POLL: To cover or not to cover?

Well I'm new to this,(won't even have a tank for some time yet), but why couldn't you "extend" the top of the tank with a short(6" - 8") wall...like the sides of a canopy without the top. And then hang the seperate canopy above that with a space between the two to let the air and oxygen in. But...
  2. water treatment for new house

Hi everyone, I have taken your advice and have Tullocks book on it's way. As I bone up on reefkeeping, I am building a new house. I have a buddy who owns a water softener company and says he can do whatever I want. I want to know what type of system to have him figure for both our...
  3. Where to begin

Thanks everyone for the suggestions, I think I'm going to start with Tullocks book and then go from there. I'm sure I'll be back soon with more questions. Thank, Rich
  4. Where to begin

I'm trying to get up to speed after ten+ years out of reef keeping. I've had a suggestion for a couple books. But I'm still really lost deciding where to start. I like the idea of live rock and a (in the tank) live sand bed only as biological filtration, as it seems to be the more natural...
  5. Pics... just because

Great tank!! Do you have the specifics (ie:equipment, filtration, etc. posted somewhere?)
  6. Magazines

Just thought I'd ask, but thanks for the suggestions. I'll have to tell my wife that the bearded clams are a necessary part of my ongoing research to get back into the hobby . Thanks, Rich
  7. Magazines

I'm getting back into reef keeping after about 12 years or so, and Dick was kind enough to recommend a couple books earlier today. Can anyone tell me the best magazine out there devoted to reef keeping? Thanks...Rich (BTW...I'm an amature astronomer, and have always found the best...
  8. Back into reef keeping

Thanks for the suggestions Dick. I remember being really into Julian Sprung and also a book I had by "Moe" I believe? But I don't know if they are still involved, or if the methods they preached are still in use. I'm sure if they are still around, they too have evolved. And I will definately...
  9. Back into reef keeping

Hi everyone! I want to get back into reef keeping again after ten+ years of being out of it. So much has changed and I figured in addition to a good forum, I would see if anyone knows of a reef "club" in the greater Phoenix,Az. area that I could get involved with. Thanks...Rich
