  1. Red Leafy Thin Algae

I have some red membrane looking algae growing in my tank. I have figured out it is Porphyra perforata, a membranous red alga from the rocky intertidal zone of southern California. In Japan, species of Porphyra called "nori" are cultivated for food. Right: Crackers wrapped in nori and package...
  2. Hey, new here and need some tips on lighting and filtration.

I just want to have a quick add here too.. I think your looking at too may fish for a 20gal even with optimum filteration/skimming. I only have 7 in my 75 and think that may be pushing a bit. Maybe 2x percula, the six line and one damsel. That would be more reasonalbe. Your right, a...
  3. hey any tips for what nano tank to get??????????????????????

Im with Katfish. I have the 14g Biocube and its great, but has such limited space for everything. Im just getting ready to add a 10g sump to it for all water processing goodies and a fuge. From stock, I have changed the pump to a MJ900, added a koralia nano for flow. The sump is actually...
  4. flow vs heat advice

I went with the biocube instead and now I realize I dont have a heat issue. Its lights are already enclosed in a plastic housing in the hood and has 2 small fans circulating air through it. I didnt realize what a blessing that was until just now. Thanks Guys! Sam
  5. Broken lens cover on light fixture

if it is acrylic, you can bond it back together with acryllic adhesive, just put brush a bit on both pieces, let set for about 30 seconds, the put them together and let them set up. Sam
  6. Aiptasia

I use the same.. cant say exact measurments, but just a tad bit thinner than toothpaste. Also turn your pumps off when dosing, and all you need is a tiny tiny squirt right in the middle of the ap. they will ingest it like food and die. Sam
  7. Australian Duncanops sp.

I think I have some of these... Ill get a picture tomorrow. (lights are out, probably not out) Only mine have red tips. The shop I got them are calling them hellfire anemones. Maybe I have something completely different, and I dont think I can see a calcuim skeleton, but the heads look...
  8. Chris' 29 gal SPS

Most people have figured this out as well.. but if your going to use a flash, take the picture at an angle so you dont get any glare. Here is one more of my favorite pics I took of my brain when it had its feeding tentacles out.
  9. Chris' 29 gal SPS

And here is a macro picture with a different lens. These pictures have been WAY downsized for the forums sake. Just remember this, Anything 6 megapixle and up with produce huge prints (something like 24x32) without pixelization if taken in RAW mode instead of .jpg. All other camera properties...
  10. Chris' 29 gal SPS

Thats the whole problem with these new digital cameras. Its all in the glass. The new cameras have the power to process huge megapixel images, but lack the glass to get the light that you need. We went with a digital SLR (one that looks like the old 35mm with the changeable lenses) And a few...
  11. Umm, mind telling me what THIS is??

  12. single pump, skimmer and return

what size tank is it?? that sump looks pretty small Sam
  13. Suggestions for controlling Green Algae

I personally dont like adding such things to my tank, I would rather fix the problem and stop the algae than put something in there that going to kill it off. Just like was mentioned above, its either a phantom bloom that will go away on its own shortly, or there are some phosphate/nitrate...
  14. Umm, mind telling me what THIS is??

slow spider movement sounds more crablike than podlike, most pods move fast.. hmmm... Im still waiting for someone else to chime in. I think EVERYONE is baffled 8O
  15. Umm, mind telling me what THIS is??

Im gonna say some type of pod at this size.. but could be a baby of something to come. Keep it around in another tank or something?? Would be interesting to see. There are some crazy things in the ocean. How does it act?? slow, fast, crawls, swims? Sam
