  1. on a budget, so i wanna build a skimmer

I ran mine with a Sedra 3500 with the needle wheel impeller when I was testing it at a bud's house. I'm thinking the EAP Skimmer with a Sedra 5000 w/needle wheel should do just fine! Best thing: the containers are dirt cheap! Mess one up, another can be had for less than $5. M
  2. on a budget, so i wanna build a skimmer

Surf on over to http://www.sdreefs.com/forums/showthrea ... eadid=1562 or ReefCentral's DIY page and look for TopJimmy's "Easy as Pie Euro Skimmer" thread. Skimmers are nothing mor than a jug, a collection cup and a pump to add water and bubbles. Cake. My DIY skimmer is almost done, keep...
  3. Drilling my tank (different question)

This is a VERY important question to have answered BEFORE you start popping holes in a tank! I had my 80 drilled for a pair of 1" bulkheads by a bud. Zip, zap, done. Other than the drill bit, all you need is a piece of plywood and some clamps to keep the bit from wandering around on the...
  4. quick skimmer ques

Surf the web. You CAN find deals. www.reefcentral.com has a good section of "for sale" and "wanted" things. This board has a good classifieds area too. The local reef clubs usually have guys upgrading and selling stuff off for dirt cheap. There's ways to get the good stuff without paying thru...
  5. diy help

Hop on over to www.reefcentral.com and do a search in their DIY section. There's this awesome setup over there using a pair of Rubbermaid containers... I went down to one of the LFS-s today to check on the design. I figured that the Euro-Reef COULDN'T be that simple... Yup. It is that...

  9. Building the "tank mahal"

Well, got the canopy/supports finished and primered today. You can really see what its going to look like just from the framework. I took the tanks off to paint. You should see it with them in there! I can't wait to get this thing up and running. M
  10. Building the "tank mahal"

We made made some progress today! I've got 4/5 of the canopy support built. The rest is coming soon. Basically I duplicated the bottom of the stand, just in 1x2. There are a few things that now that they're built, I'm not so sure about... I'll go take some pics tomorrow and post so y'all...
  11. Building the "tank mahal"

I hate painting! This stand has so many different sides to remember to paint! Lots of fronts and backs, tops and bottoms, and side to sides. I KNOW I've forgotten a few, but I'm tired of painting the darn thing. I put one coat on all of it, and two coats of part. I've hit a stopping...
  12. sump or refugium

Go check out my "Tank Mahal" in the DIY section. Why not do both? Its fun watching the little critters swim around in your refugium. I SWEAR I have some mantis shrimp in mine... They're 3/8" or less so I'm not too stressed about them. Mike
  13. Building the "tank mahal"

You're talking about this. Right? Mike
  14. Building the "tank mahal"

The plan for both the 20H tanks it to make them combo surge/refugia. I'm going to glue a baffle down either the middle lengthwise, or widthwise with only a portion of the tank being a surge. I'm guessing each 20H is going to surge 5-6gal. I'm planning on drilling holes in one end of the 20H...
  15. saw a nice tank

I didn't know they made a 48x30x24 tank... Too bad, 'cause the Tank Mahal is built for a 48"x24" footprint. Had I known, I probably would've overbuilt that much more... Mike
