  1. any precision marine hot-1 users?

I've been running a HOT-1 with MJ1200 for about 3 months. After a frustrating start I learned a few things. Maybe this is in the instructions but mine was used. For the first few weeks I was afraid to leave the house in case it overflowed. Now I only touch it once a week to clean the cup and the...
  2. 3 inch sandbed?

I put a little over 2" of southdown in an 20 long and it took about a week to clear. Serious brown mud puddle looking stuff too. Sticks to everything including rocks, sides of tank and any other surface. I have removed and scrubbed just about everything since then. Skimmer pulls stuff that...
  3. Help with Yellow Tang

I don't have a Red Ryder BB gun but I have a Crossman pellet gun. Is that an acceptable substitute? Has anyone tried the Crossman?
  4. who's got closed loops

Most of the closed loops I see have 1 or 2 holes somewhere in the middle of the back of the tank feeding the suction side of the pump. Then discharge up and over to sprayers or sea swirls. The water never goes through the sump.
  5. who's got closed loops

I just ordered a Mak-4 for a closed loop on a 125g. I pondered using a stream pump for a while but decided on the pump and sea swirls. No one complains about the SS but the stream pumps get mixed reviews. I just need to poke a couple of holes in it for the suction lines. Cheaper sea swirls...
  6. Octocoral question

Does the intensity of the toxins increase or decrease according to the corals enviroment? Just curious if they are aware of another coral in close proximity maybe through physical contact or by sensing some specific chemical in the water. I didn't find any comments on this in the books.
  7. Rock supports

I think it's a great idea. I have about 9' of 4" pvc. I needed a foot and it only comes in 10' legnths. I can cut it into 4" pieces and use them to keep the rock off the sand.
  8. Dino battle and Chemi-clean

I beat a bad case of dinos in a 7g nano over a period of a few months. I think it was a combination of all the things everyone suggests like shorter light period, better skimmer, more water changes, less food, bigger clean-up crew, ect.... I never found the silver bullet.
  9. Chat times

The schedule of events on the main page list both days as 11:00-12:00. Could cause confusion with us chronoligically challenged people.
  10. OK jokes over!

Sorry. I R duh! I read the times but it didn't sink in I guess. I should be able to make the others. Since I missed the chat session what did everyone think of the material? I would politely say it's challenging. I certianly need to find some more reading time that's for sure.
  11. My new 125 AGA Reef Ready is up and running!

I'm jealous. I have an empty 125 AGA-RR setting behind me right now. I'm slowly collecting the stuff I need to get it going. $$$! I'm curious about your lights and return pump. And did you do a DSB? The tanks kinda shallow for more than a 3-4" bed.
  12. 7 Gallon Bowfront Lighting

With a little work it will fit into the light fixture that comes with the tank. I took mine out an built an ugly hood so I could add a couple 13x lights.
  13. Best day for chat

Weekends are pretty easy anytime. Week nights after 9PM CST.
  14. Cleaner shrimp = snail food

I came home this afternoon and found my snails polishing off the last of my cleaner shrimp. He was eating and lively last night so I'm not sure what happened. I don't think the snails knocked him down and ate him on their own and everything else in the tank is normal. I had it for a little over...
  15. Dinoflagellates, one more time.

I know it's not the same scale but I just beat dinos on a nano. I did the following over about 4 months: Added a skimmer and ran it 7x24 cleaned every 3-4 days Ran charcoal 7x24 and changed it at least once a week 20% water change every 4-5 days Reduce light to 10 hours a day Replaced PC bulbs...
