  1. best animals for hair algae control

Of turbos, astrea, trochus, blue leg hermits, red leg hermits, emerald crab, lawnmower blenny, and so on and so on, which would have the best chance of controlling hair algae? I'm willing to spend whatever. I have completely taken my tank down, srubbed every rock individually, and it is now...
  2. satellite or orbit

yea the satellite has the moonlights. maybe the difference is that you can control all bulbs seperately on the orbit, whereas you cannot on the satellite
  3. satellite or orbit

Could somebody explain to me the differences between the orbit and satellite fixtures? I am willing to spend the extra for the orbit if it is better, but if its just a new shape, then I'll save that money. Also, both bulbs can be controlled seperately right? And can they both be put on timers...
  4. anybody buy from petsolutions?

I was thinking either saltwaterfish.com or liveaquaria, but the prices at petsolutions made me re-think that. I will probably stick with either marinedepotlive, liveaquria, or saltwaterfish though
  5. anybody buy from petsolutions?

The LFS are just simply too expensive around here...$5 for turbos, $3.50 for hermits, stuff like that. I have never bought online, but am thinking about giving petsolutions.com a go. Anybody have any input about them? Thanks!
  6. brown sludge stuff in newly mixed water

yea i got most of it scooped out, i think i will just use it. what you desribed sounded pretty close to what i saw.
  7. brown sludge stuff in newly mixed water

I just mixed up 50 gallons of saltwater, and when I looked in the trash can, I saw brown film junk floating on the water. When i stirred it up, it would seperate and then kinda form back together on the top. The salt I used was somewhat moist even though it is kept sealed, but it looked very...
  8. starting over...sorta

So the hair algae is outa control in my tank. I've been trying to get rid of it, but it is taking off like a weed!!! I have cut my feeding by about 75%, been doing more water changes and with distilled water, bumped up my skimmer, and more. And it just gets worse. The cualerpa has quit...
  9. hair algae problem

Would getting a yellow tang help the problem? I know they are herbivores, but would they eat hair algae?
  10. severe new tank syndrome

Tazdevil, i never said i thought the lfs should take the fish. It would be nice if they did, but it is their decision and I don't blame them for not.
  11. severe new tank syndrome

Evidently all of the fish were purchased in Florida, so he is hunting around for a fish store that will take them and hold them. So far nobody will. They will buy them from him, but then make him buy them back at a regular price. Thats not the most customer friendly thing ever, but i guess the...
  12. severe new tank syndrome

A friend of mine called me up yesterday and he informed me he recently got a 150g saltwater tank. It is a week old, and he already has a 8-9" bamboo shark, 5" diamter stingray, three yellow tangs, one 2ft dragon moray, one 4" clown trigger, one 4-5" volitans lion and three or four small damsels...
  13. hair algae problem

Ok so I have done a search on eradicating hair algae, and pretty much everything I find says to bring down nutrient levels and phosphates. Well, nitrates are almost zero and phosphates are zero. And I KNOW I haven't been overfeeding my fish because I havent hardly touched my tank in the last two...
  14. cycle live sand?

nope not new at all. set up for over a year
  15. cycle live sand?

I am finally getting around to adding more live sand to my tank. It is the Nature's Ocean bagged kind. Awhile back I asked about the best way to put it in the tank, and I was told to use a cup and slowly add it. That makes since and all, but a few people posted and said I should cycle it first...
