Most every set up with MH's should be the inside top of canopy (or hood) at 14 inches from top of tank. This keeps heat from transfering easily to the tank. Most people also will add fans to the canopy also. Glenn

If you meand curing it yourself, yes. It isn't that hard, but you'd have to have a tank for it to cure in. Not your main tank, or it will cycle it. It's not that bad. If you mean getting it yourself, that's illegal.

hi Diver, Have you tested for phosphates lately? This could also have caused the problem. It may have been building and when you added the phytoplex or the zoe it was enough to send it critical. I would make sure and get that tested....it may rise back up after your water change. Glenn

I take it you have a canopy or are going to get one. For MH's to be mounted safely and for heat purposes make the top of the canopy 12 - 14 inches from the top of tank. And you will need to install fans also. I build them and stands and have found from experience that this height works the best...

Oceanic and All Glass dont use oak. It is Ash. The stain that would come closest is Bombay Mahogany (MinWax). And yes you are right they dont make them tall enough for MH's. I build for my own company and have talked with them in the past. Glenn

Ernie, Why is it taking until december for your new stand to be built? If that is true you need to go to someone that can do the job on time. I dont take that long to build them. Mine take 3 - 5 weeks usually from time of order to shipping. Glenn

Hi Chip, You should get a new canopy. I build them and make sure they are 12 - 14 inches tall, when accomidating MH's. This allows for excellent lighting and also keeps down any heat transfer to tank from the bulbs. Sorry but the one you bought is a little to short.as far as one or two bulbs...

First thing to do is have LFS test your ph also to make sure your kit is still good. If it is the when you do water change dont add any type of buffer for the ph. most water is usually lower in ph than your tank so this will help bring it down some. Glenn

My best guess is that it is methane bubbles. You need to get an emerald crab. They eat the methane. If it pops there is a good chance you will loose any fish in tank. I have seen the bubbles on many rocks and that is why the LFS didnt remove them, or they just figured more deco on rock. That who...
