  1. Protein Skimmer production question

hehe Yeah, it helps. I wish all companies followed this advice. I've found it takes all skimmers some time to start producing skimmate, even used ones. Even takes time after cleaning. I guess they need a bit of slime coating to really kick into gear. Wayne
  2. thinking about going filterless

The one thing you will see is an increase in debris floating around in the current. I've been fighting this. If you're like me, you want crystal clear water. Having no mechanical filtering, this may not be possible. I'm one of those who doesn't use carbon all the time. Five days a month...
  3. rubbermaid sump

Tank is a 75g Oceanic with one overflow. I'll try to put up a pic or two tomorrow when I'm off work. The only thing I'm having problems with is filtering detritus. I've got a large poly-sponge in the large bin that catches a bit. I've tried filter material in the overflow, but it gets sucked...
  4. rubbermaid sump

After phutzing with a 20g aquarium for two weeks, trying to put in acrylic baffles, I finally managed to crack the glass. I went to Wal-Mart and bought three Rubbermaid tubs--45g, a 10g or so, and a smaller one--epoxied the two smaller into the large tub and created a very workable sump. The...

  7. African dust cloud and coral reefs

Sadly, this phenomenon is going to continue, I believe, forever...or until Ma Nature decides she's had enough of human habitation. A major cause of the problems in Africa can be seen around the world. If you look at the Earth from space, the rainforest is a belt of green around the equator...
  8. Best Supplier of LR?

We just got another 25 lbs of LR from www.liverocks.com (Triton Marine). We drove up and got another load, yesterday. Mike is a great guy and has done well by us. The Gulf rock from either liverocks or Tampa Bay Saltwater has more corals and such; the Keys rock has more coraline. Some great...
