  3. Sandbed question

Forget the battery operated one...On a regular vacuum when the siphon starts you have to pinch the tube to slow down the siphon once the sand is picked up in the tube this will help to prevent sucking the sand into the siphon. if your sandbed is 2in or less , I wouldn't worry too much about...
  4. Aptasia

yea! I kinda thought so . They are tough little buggers. AND A PITA!!! Thanks
  5. Aptasia

I have some rock in another tank but it has a few aptasia on them. I want to put this rock in the sump of my main tank. Anyone think the Aptasia could make their way to my main tank from the sump..
  6. Mircale mud or sand in the Refugium

Do you have a shallow sand bed in your tank? If so then I would clean that with a tube to get all the garbage out of it. I have a shalllow sand bed and clean it (vacuum it with a tube) every water change. I get a lot of crap out of it when I do this. I used o have a small tank with a sand bed...
  7. Tank crashed after sump install

I'd say it was the bleach....Same thing happened to me a long , long time ago cleaning out a sump with bleach. As soon as I hooked the sump back up , my Damsel was dead within 10 min and some of my corals also were in bad shape....I'll never do that again..
  8. Generator powering my furnace blower?

I have done it the way Irasser said and it worked fine for my gas boiler. Only difference was that I turned off the breaker to the boiler before I pulled the switch apart just in case the power came back on while I was working on the switch. Can't be too careful... BTW , I was an HVAC tech...
  9. Phosphate Pad from Deep blue

Anyone ever use one of these. I put one in my sump and ,even after 4 days ,it made my skimmer produce so much foam that it was overflowing even at the lowest setting and I had to shut it down. Also some of my corals are not looking that hot . I have since taken it out and will do a 20% water...
  10. 24" MH w/ T5 combo?

Aqua traders sells one, an odyssea. Very cheap but I would be wary of the quality .
  11. Bare Bottom or not

I have had both and to me sand looks better than no sand. Just use enuf to cover the bottom . I have about 1" on my bottom and when I do a water change I just use a vacuum attachment and clean the sand. My present tank has been up for over 5 yrs like that and I never have a problem with nutrients.
  12. thinking of building a sump!!

My advice is ...Get the biggest sump you can fit under there. I've had quite a few and the bigger the better. My present tank is 36" long and yrs ago built a really nice 20 gal long sump only to find it didn't fit in my stand :( ... So I wound up with a 20 gal high which works but not enuf...
