I know people hate Seaclones, but if it's all you got then heres a way to beef it up.
1) Replace that damn air adjuster with a real air control valve this alows for fine tuning.
2) Cut down your cup riser by about half with a rotary tool. Caution go slow or tool will melt plastic and stick...
yeah, VHO actinics are short lived. But on a tank this size they have a awsome output a 100% side to side coverage. I have always paid through the nose for lights, but it's worth it. I will ride my modified, overdriven and highly abused seaclone skimmer till it kicks. But I won't chinse on...
That is exactly what I had on my LR. Kinda looked like a red Jashua Tree. I didn't like it so I took it out a tossed it. It has been gone for 4 month no sign of a comeback. The stalks seemed kinda calcified like those of a bottle brush plant.
The higher the K rateing the bluer the light, the lower the rateing the redder. As for wattage I wouldn't know but I would say the more intense the better.
The best luck I ever had was one a 10g Dwarf Seahorse setup I had out in Cali. I had it connected to a 10g sump and it pumped up to a 10g fuge. 24/7 65w PC lighting w/ 5# LR suspended off bottom with eggcrate. I ran a 3.5 or so sandbed in the fuge with the inlet coming in between the sand bed...
I will wait a while befor I jump into SPS/Clam territory. I would like to keep lower light needy LPS and softies for now. My stock seaclone was pretty crappy but I have tweeked it and it now produces alot of skimmate. I can finally expand my setup cause the wife is tired of the skimmers noise...
:D
Nice to find a good site.
My current project is this 29g. It is "under construction" at this time. I started with 30# of dead reefbones and a 5# hunk of Florida Live. I wanted to make my own LR. My light is a hodgepodge of NO flouresence. I run bare bottom with two 120gph powerheads...
