That, my dear, is because there are FEW "good" fish suggestions.

I'll go with the royal gramma and a sixline wrasse (you just BETTER watch your wrasse!), and then keep it to inverts.

How's THAT?

Oh yeah, what about using a converter (ac/dc?) for the muffin fan? Good tip, cuz you're lookin' at the queen of cheap to free.

Add neon goby to the list of acceptable fish. I'd go with that before the sixline. Though I do like sixlines, always active.

If you look hard enough, you can get a transformer with the rectifier built in. The ones from radioshack (although WWAAY overpriced) are built in. Any small transformer that says DC will have a rectifier built in.

I got my 12vdc 200ma transformers for $4 each here in NYC

(Fry's. I've only heard stories.... Can't wait to go...)
