I think I'll put in my 2 cents here and speak up for all the small business owners out there.
I mean not to offend, just express.
Employment is the largest cost for a business. Not hiring doesn't equate to saving the owner money, it means that he'll be able to keep costs low, and charge less.
Think IKEA.
No salesman on the clock or commission also means guaranteed sincere service, afterall, he likely just dished out 100k to live his dream, provide a service and tried to make a living by sharing his passion. If I'm gonna buy something, I'd talk to the boss over a sales guy any day. What? I might want to try for a discount you know.
Overpriced? No one is aware except the owner, the actual costs it takes to bring supplies in , that also includes the cost of production, rent, and manpower to keep them maintained. There's a golden rule for businesses on mark ups, it's golden for a reason because it's a calculation that helps you steer business, keep bills paid all the while maintaining an equilibrium in the market. Perhaps there's also quality to be thought about here, higher quality at a higher value, for higher cost. I do enjoy me some expensive high quality sh*t sometimes. What can I say? Cheap doesn't always cut it.
I do think though however, that there seems to be a communication break here somewhere on his availability. But with all these lovely comments, who's gonna ignore the customer feedback? Certainly not him.
Keep trekking ax, and thanks for sharing your passion.
