I'm getting a new camera.
I like taking pics, but am not a serious hobbyist so will be getting a P&S. It'll be used mostly for family snaps, pics of my daughter playing basketball, nature scenes and, of course, my reef tanks.
I've narrowed it down to 2 cameras.
The Canon G12 and the Canon SX40 HS. I don't want to spend anymore $ so the "bridge cameras" are out for now.
The G12 has a bigger sensor and shoots in RAW. The SX40 HS has a 35x optical zoom, slightly better macro and a lot of "toys."
Am I going to get noticeably better pictures (assuming skills are decent) from working with the G12 and RAW rather than the SX40 HS and JPEG? How much added effort is there in using editing tools like photoshop elements to get the most out of RAW vs JPEG?
Opinions would be appreciated.
