Lineatus Tang

Here's a shot of my lineatus tang from last night.

Moderate PS work, basically just fiddling with brightness and contrast and a couple tiny clone-outs of some scratches in the glass.

You know, I've been meaning to ask you what type of camera you use and how much it cost...I've been thinking of upgrading...

Thanks, appreciate the compliment! I've got another dozen shots of tails and bellies and blurred smears of color, though, before I got this one. :wink:

I'll have to look at my notes at home to give you exact specifics, but I I think I remember most of them:

  Camera is Minolta DiMage 7i (paid $585 at www.directsource.com)
  Shot at 200mm macro
  Autofocus on
  Shutter priority mode with shutter speed either 1/90s or 1/125s (forgot which)
  White Balance correction to fluorescent
  No idea what the aperature ended up being on this one

I had one in my 415 for about a year and it just slowly starved I think. Never really seemed to thrive. I added a second and it didn't make it past the first month. I don't understand why these guys are so sensitive when the sohal's seem to be one of the hardiest tangs around.

Here is a neat pic of the 2nd clown tang that I had - I love the swirl pattern of the lines around it's eye. Kinda blurry, but you can see the pattern.

Neat picture. That is a really cool pattern around the eye. Sorry to hear he didn't make it. I've had mine for just over a year now and he's doing really well. Eats like a horse though. If he goes a single day without being fed, he gets noticeably thin. Mine gets a rotating mixture of diced fresh shrimp, 3 different types of pellet food, 2 types of flake, and 2 different types of nori.

Yeah, seems that's what the problem with most of my failures with fish have been. Some fish just never really get to where they go after the food. The clown was a picky eater and never really plumped up. In my tank there is lots of comotion at feeding time so the fish have to get in the mix to get some food.

Sounds like you're over the hump with that one. They are beautiful fish no doubt!

beautiful pictures and very lovely tang. i want tangs but my tank is too small. when i get a bigger tank i think i will skip this guy even though it is very nice. this bulletin board is a lifesaver.

Now you've done it...

I've opted to try to find a good specimen of a lineatus and an achilles tang. I'm putting them into a 150 tall tank as the only large fish (its an sps dominated reef with lots of swimming room). I'll be sure to try for hours to get good shots to post for people!

Just remember to acclimate slow and feed lots. :-D
