I enjoy this biweekly contest. It helps me to think critically of my own pictures. I tend to put pictures in a folder without finishing the post processing, and when I go looking for a contest entry, I am distressed by the number of flaws that did not bother me beforehand. I enjoy seeing the variety of entries. I am always surprised when I look at the contest photos and see different subjects, unique view points, or just outstanding execution of a common subject. Take the clownfish contest for example, I thought I had seen every type of clownfish picture possible—nope, there were amazing new pictures.

The one thing that is missing from the contest is feedback about the photos. In general, I would select different pictures for the final 5, and probably different winners as well. I like my own picture of the bristle worm in this contest, but there were pictures that I liked better than did not make the final group. Comments may bias the results, but so what, its a subjective process anyway.

As for the swimming bristle worm., I would tell you more about it but I know almost nothing. I was on a night dive in the Philippines when this creature swam through my aiming light. It was slow moving so I was able to get my framer around it and take a picture. I did not really know what I had taken a picture of until I had the film processed. I didn’t know a bristle worm could swim. I would have liked to watch it but I couldn’t follow it. I would appreciate details if anyone knows this species.

That explains it. I was wondering how you got that shot, with nothing in the background, in a tank.

That is an excellent shot and definately the best of the submitted entrys.

Congratuations on a fantastic shot!
