This was the best shot in my first attempts at using my digital cam and my Bushnell spotting scope. I've seen some bird sites that use this combo with fantastic results.

My scope was mounted on my tripod. I set my Nikon 4300 on manual/closeup. I used f11.2 and 1/30 exposure. I was hand holding the cam and focused manually. My next task will be finding an adapter for this allowing the cam to be fixed to the scope which should improve the focus and center the lens to the scope.

Why crank down on the aperture so far? I would think that opening it up would improve things significantly since in reality you are just taking a picture of a flat image thats being directed thru the eyepiece. Your exposure could be faster that way as well.

I let the cam pic the exposure for that one. I tried a few different settings, and this was the best pic, even with the slower exposure. I think until I get an adapter, it's going to be tough at best. When I use my 35mm, I usually use f11-1/125th. I had a hard time keeping the cam centered on the scope.

Thanks for the link minime! I'll definately check it out.

Yeah, since you're taking a pic that's on the lense of the scope, you can get away with a much faster shutter speed. Which will cause less movement blur. if you're shooting f/11 at 1/125 you could easily open up a few stops and make your shutter speed much faster. Try shooting at 5.6@1/500. It will help, and you won't lose that much depth of field.
