My girlfriend bought this camera 2 years ago or so. It has been great, we have brought it on several vacations and biz trips and taken some halfway decent pics with it.

However, it is a little old (2.1MP) and it isnt mine... so I could go out and buy another camera. And besides, I cant seem to get a decent shot of my tank at all... it's almost like the camera cant focus past the glass (even though I just spent over an hour cleaning my glass on both sides!).

I am wondering if it is the camera thats the problem, and if so, whats a decent replacement. Or, if it is something else.

I did a search in the forum and it seems no one else is using this cam.

First of all, does your camera have a Macro mode? (ususally there's a little flower icon on canon cameras) Also try shooting your tank when the room is dark. That way there's less reflections.

There are LOTS of 'replacements' out there that will take great pictures. What is your budget? Start there, and then do some research.

I had a canon A300. Great pictures, but it took a LONG time between shots. Also, It ate batteries. (2 AA) and if I wasn't getting the batteries for free, It would suck a lot.

Now I have a canonn s400 digital Elph. It rocks, except it doesn't have manual mode. I can't adjust shutter or aperature. All I can do is set exposure compensation and 'film speed' That's the camera's only drawback. The best thing is that it's small enough to carry in a pocket.

I really like my Minolta DiMage 7i, and it's moderately priced. The only drawback to it I've found is that it doesn't take interchangable lenses. Otherwise it's basically a professional camera.

In fact, even with that glowing review I'm kinda thinking about trying to sell it and get one of the new Canon digital rebels. Basically the same features as what I have now, but I can get a long zoom lens for it (I do a great deal of sports photography). Interested?? ;)

Interested? A little :)

I like the elph for the reason listed above - I took it with me thru hongkong, japan, ny, etc, in my pocket and uploaded the pics at night on the laptop. Was great, digital doesnt waste film (I take some stupid shots when on vacation) and the camera performs fairly well.

The canon we have now does have a flower icon but I tried it, and it turned out even more fuzzy.

I tried the mode that looks like two hills overlapping and it sucked too.

The regular mode with no flash and slightly longer exposure seemed to work best but the algaes were blurry because they move with the water turbulence...

My budget is sorta undecided. I'd like to take some decent shots of my garden and tank for posterity sooo if a camera is decent I'll spend the money on it. The canon s110 we have now cost her about $700 cad and I dont think that is unreasonable for a digital camera.
