Nice, Clare! Great pics, and cool tank. My own personal pipedream is to turn a 65-gal into a fuge with horses. You stole my idea!

Well, I'm dong it kinda bass-ackwards. I have the refugium, but I don't have the huge reef tank it's supposed to be supporting. I'm planning the big "reefish" tank (mostly fish with some live rock and a few select corals) for early next year. This 65-gallon was meant to be a seahorse and pipe tank only, but you know how it its. Those jawfish are great, and they're peaceful enough to live with horses ... and the green chromis are too small to be a problem ... the clowns? harmless ... gotta have a neon goby ... before you know it, I'm looking at 71" of fish (when they are all fully grown) in a 65 gallon tank!

Y'know, that's not a half bad idea for a fish tank, go with the salt planted. Interesting...

i thought if you put a predator of any kind in a fuge, it is no longer officially a fuge?

Hmmm. I've never seen seahorses or pipefish referred to as predators.

Maybe "refugiium" is not the right term, then? It's a planted tank, 6-8 inch DSB, for seahorses and pipefish. I don't know what you'd call it, then.

Sounds like a seahorse or niche specific tank to me. I was going to comment on the 'refugium' definition earlier myself....
