hi guys.
a quick question from over the pond.
pleasee gentle as i have little or no knowledge regarding cameras.
i want to buy a digital camera so i can take some quality pics of my reef.
not a lot of funds so can anyone who has had sucess with cheaper digicams post some pics and the name/model of the cam here.
it's been an expensive year what with the new baby anya....a new mini dv camera.....a holiday and an mpv for the woman in my life.
please don't post any pic's from expensive cams as sadly that will not be my target.
wayne.
:D

i have added a pic to give you an idea the lack of quality i am getting at the moment.
there are actually 9 sps corals and frags in this shot....not that the cam shows it

In case no one's said it, welcome to RDO! And very nice-looking reef you have there.

I have a Nikon Coolpix 4300- not a REAL cheap camera, but the price has come down to about USD 350. It takes quality images- you can see examples of this camera throughout this photo forum on posts by yours truly.

Any of the Coolpix line are quality cameras, though. Remember, you get what you pay for!

A good value camera is the Canon A70 @ about $300. It is my favorite affordable camera by far. It is a full featured point-and-shoot style camera that will take good tank photos as well as all your daily photos. The A60 is a commendable performer for $60 less, but has less resolution.

The only other thing you'll want for sure is a bigger memory card. Good news is memory cards (compactflash) are a lot cheaper nowadays, and you can get a 256meg one for under $50 IIRC.

I got a few last summer at Sam's club for $58. I think they might be $49 now.
