I tend to like Canon for digital cameras. I own all Nikon 35mm gear and it's great...but I think bang for the buck..Canon is the leader in digital photography (at this point and time). That's not to say Nikon, Olympus and Minolta don't make some nice stuff....I just prefer Canon at the moment.

Here are some to consider:

If you can spend a bit more....I highly recommend this Canon. I have an earlier version (G2) and it is a great camera..especially it's close focus / macro setting. It also has some flexibility with add on lenses.

If you are NOT married...and have had a few beers....I would get this one. Just put it on your plastic. I love mine with a Canon macro lens.

I've often used buydig.com for my cameras. Usually great price and service.. Shop around for best price.

Good luck

I use a Nikon Coolpix 4500 with a macro lens attachment. Can't say I've had any complaints at all. I think, for aquarium use, a good macro ability is essential. Also something I haven't seen mentioned here, but a large image capability (4mp or bigger) allows you to size down a good closeup to make it sharper and clearer. Here are the sites I used extensively way back when I was shopping for a digital camera:

Alternatively, enter "digital camera reviews" at your favorite search engine site. :)

You know a line that doesn't get a lot of attention that is a great camera? Fujifilm :) I REALLY like my S3000. I know its an older mod. but it takes much better photos than some of my friend's more expensive cameras.

Worth looking into.

I'm in the market for one, too. BMP, do you know where Canon digi cams are manufactured?

TIA

I'm not for sure ....as I wouldn't doubt various parts of different cameras are made all over the world? Canon is a Japanese based company (obviously with branches all over the world). BOTH my EOS 20D and G2 are marked "Made in Japan" on the base of the cameras. My Canon lenses say the same.

Here is a good site to check out for information. Including the FORUMS!!!.

That's exactly what I'm looking for. How much should I expect to pay for one of those?

The G2 has been discontinued (now the G6). The EOS 20D is on sale NOW at buydig.com and Canon is offering a $100 rebate now. I wish I had waited a couple months. :-(

Good price if you are serious about your photography.

$1,284.00 at buydig.com (body only) I'd get a macro lens for tank work and AVOID the kit lens.

Best price on this camera I've seen to date. ($1184) Still a bunch of clams.

ONe other thing...that 20D price DOES NOT INCLUDE memory card. I'd figure another $85-90 for a high speed 1GB compact flash card (I like Scandisk Ultra II 1GB cards) The 1GB is a nice compromise for cost/memory. The 2GB was on sale at Dell.com for $149 last week ???

Perhaps a price war on the Canon EOS 20D ??????

Just found this thread (take it for what it's worth //with salt) regarding the 20D for almost $1.000 at Dell.com after rebates etc. ???

Oh well... I suppose if one waits until the model is discontinued...he will get it for hundreds less.
