I want to buy a camera to take pics of my tank. There are two problems. One find a camera to take good quality pics, that is affordable, and two to be able to post them to the size needed on the form.
Any advise will be very helpful

First, your definition of "affordable" would be needed.

Second, any image editing program can resize pics to post on the web.

I actually want to upgrade my camera also. I want to get something around/under $250 but that will be better than my canon powershot a60. I also would like to try and get it locally, and I might even be able to trade my canon back in at best buy since my service plan is still up and valid and get one that they offer. It has to be somewhat idiot proof because I don't know much about cameras but I do know enough to be able to use my current camera's manual mode and such.

Any recommendations? Would it be much better to purchase outside of bestbuy considering their selection? :?

Thanks!

I'd consider a Nikon P2 or a Fuji F470 or Olyums FE-140 or 150. I've only played with these on a cursory basis but they're respectable machines. My advice is do not chase megapixels. In your budget range, less pixels is probably better. Aim for the 4-6 megapixel range and avoid the 8 ones. They'll be very noisy with lots of artifacts. Other then that, most cameras should do well for you.

Personally, I'd save up and get an entry level SLR like Canon D-Rebel or Nikon D50. You'll be amazed how much better these are :)

Thanks Len, Questions on your respones. the cameras you posted, Nikon P2, Fuji F470 i am guessing are digital, correct? I am not looking to win the photo shot on this form, just looking to show some nice pics of the tank to everyone. These will do it or they are over board?

Yep, those are digital. They're in your price range and should perform nicely for you.

< Im a big fan of the FUJIFILM finepix SLR style cams.. I have an old 30002 and it takes GREAT pictures. I also have a magnifier lense and it works great too.

Worth looking into.. easy .. fairly cheap.. better pics than my parents Kodak that was tripple the price.

If you're looking for macro shots, pick up a used Nikon Coolpix 880 off of eBay for $75-100. You will NOT be disappointed.

With a regular digital camera, you'll need flash. For shots of moving objects without flash that are in-focus, you'll need to purchase a digital SLR.

Well, be prepared to spend the cash.

I recommend the Nikon D70. Best deal I've seen is $1,100 with 2 lenses.

Peace,

You can get a used Cannon Rebel XT for around 400 and then you can pick up a regular lense with a good range like 75-300mm lense 4 about a hundred.
