...if you don't calibrate your tools, you could end up like me.

here's what happened. when the warm weather started, I noticed my temp was spiking into the mid 80's on my reefkeeper lite. I calibrated it when I first got it, but haven't done it since because I borrowed the thermometer.

So, since we don't have central AC, I decided to try fans. I put one of our oscillating fans by the top of the tank. it didn't quite do the trick, so I got a pair of clip on fans and clamped them above the top.

It still didn't seem to do the trick. I felt the water yesterday, and thought "this feels kind of cool" but the reefkeeper read 89 degrees.

I popped by the LFS, picked up a thermometer and dropped it in. In an hour, the thermometer was reading 15 degrees cooler than the reefkeeper.

I recallibrated and am glad I caught it when I did.

TL;DR = Haven't callibrated reefkeeper lite since I got it. Thought temp was too high. Tried fans, but no joy. Bought a thermometer and found out the reefkeeper was off by 15 degrees.

LOL. I was thinking about going with the Apex too, but as usual, the money is tight. I gues the idea is that even if you buy something to automate your tank, you still have to make sure it is operating correctly.

That goes for anything, especially things that can nuke your tank if they are not working properly.

I have the digital aquatics temp probe hooked up to my tank and also i have a ranco controller that gives me the temp reading too so I'm always sure of the temp.
