Use a toothbrush and scrub off as much as you can. Use a net or sand vacum to get as much of the loos hair out as possible. Keep your lights of for 2-3 days after scrubbing. This just worked for me. Good luck!

First how old is the tank? Also, what are you readings, Nitrates, Phosphates and such.

Things like high nitrates and phosphates will cause hair algae to grow in your tank. The lowering of these will eliminate the hair algae, which you can do through water changes, running Phosband and a good skimmer.

Just a note - the anemone shrinking can be a sign that something's wrong with your water quality.

I agree that you should find the root of the problem first. The cannister filter needs to go. I assume you have a hang on back skimmer. If you decide to upgrade I recently got a reef octopus hang on back and am very satisfied. You really dont need any other filtration besides a skimmer and good flow throughout the tank. Also, and this is probably most important, once you have cleared up the problem, do weekly 15% water changes using RO water (and make sure your RO isnt dirty). Do not slack on the water changes. Check the water you have been using. If it is not RO, that could be the root of the problem. Age of bulbs could also be contributing. If the bulbs are over a year, change them out.

I battled the hair in the past. I tried turning the lights off, tried pulling and scrubbing. Though some may disagree about their effectiveness, I bit the bullet and got a couple emerald crabs. I have been hair algae free since. Good luck.

+1 with the RO water. There r many questions to ask.
How long is ur lighting period?
How old r the bulbs?
What type of test kit r u using and r they expired?
Your parameters seem fine but u might also be reading low nitrates and phosphates because the hair algae is consuming it.
Your temp is on the high side.

Look into buying a better skimmer and getting a sump refugium that's all u really need + good flow.

When you first mentioned converting to a reef, RODI was mentioned as the best way to remove phosphates and keep algae blooms down.
Anemone are very sensitive to phosphate, among other things. Phosphate also fuels algae blooms as mentioned in your other post.
It is possible you are seeing the effects of residual chemical imbalances in your prior setup that is not compatible with a reef tank. It may be a good idea to start over if you can rehouse your livestock.
