I performed my WC yesterday, nothing different only done a week later than I normally do. Anyway, Skimmer cup is mostly full of water a day after the WC. What's up??? I haven't played with anything either. I have been filling the sump/refugium almost to the top lately to adjust for hyper salinity between WC is that the culprit?????

Can't you just adjust it down and then slowly raise it back to normal over time? Mine after a day or two doing a water change can be weird at times as well. Usually after a water change I leave it off for 1-2 days

Best to tell folks what kind of skimmer it is. It doesn't sound like it is adjusted properly.

Better to remove some water and add unsalted top off water to adjust the salinity downward..do NOT make large adjustments all at once! Do it over the course of days - to a week.

How high was/is the salinity and what was the cause? Assuming you do not use an ATO system?

Topping off should be either done automatically by an ATO or on a DAILY basis if you are doing it manually. You truly do not want large salinity swings in your tank :(

One last thought...if you have added extra water to your sump to try to lower the salinity, you are taking a chance that if the power goes out, you will probably overflow your sump... better to get some of that water out of there now. Simply removing some of the water at this point will not change the current salinity of the tank.

Thank you, agreed, I will remove some water. Unfortunately, I do not know what brand skimmer it is. I had a custom sump/refugium made for me about a year ago when I decided to stick with the hobby. I wish I knew what it was too as I do not know how to really adjust this one.

Maybe post a pic and you will get further suggestions on how to adjust it so it isn't skimming so wet.

...then again it might be due to the excessive amount of water in the sump. Most skimmers do have a 'set' amount of water they should be in.
Take some out and see how it reacts by tomorrow?
