Richie told me the best trick and that was to seprate each water part when you buy the box. I do 50gal water changes a week so i would take the 200gal box and have it divide it into 4 and have each part in a seprate container. so there was no more or less of each

What's a pain in the butt? Having spot on parameters that most other salt's don't have?
Not sure how you'd be saving any cash by having to dose to bring the mix of other salts up to the same parameters that you get right out of the box with ESV?
I prefer to not have to waste my time running tests to figure out what I have to add to other salts to make them the quality of ESV

hey man i feel your pain and this is why i dont use esv, esv just may be the best!! but i use h2o i get it @ manhattan aquariums and they sell alot of it, as far as being dead on with parameters! thats a funny topic cause i know guys whos parameters are so dead on that they have wonderful results thanks to esv but for some reason they are still getting wet to the shoulders testing parameters, so you really cant say that esv is the answer to all your problems , just add water and stir!! i know people using esv and still have issues.... but i love the esv results ( before the users attack me lol) but im doing really well with h2o , give it a shot.

Jarrett, do you just divide it in 4 equal parts OR actually measure out, the four 50g portions?
I do 3 or 4 weeks of 30g changes and one 100g each month, so just under or over a full box each month...
Since I've never actually measured out exactly 200g, I can't be positive, BUT there always seems to be a little EXTRA of each ingredient left over.


On another note...I often see some of the vendors here, have special prices on ESV, so as Kathy mentioned, I'm no so sure of the $ saving by switching to other salts...especially since, if you mix some of them to 1.025+, you do not get the 'full' advertised gallonage from their box/bucket

I'm sure that if these 'guys' are testing params on ESV, they would certainly be doing, at least as much, testing with any other salt!

this is the point im making albano, that you still have to put labor into it, switching salts is not easy at all and should take special consideration with a kid glove approach but h20 is a bit easier to use and also has good results. esv is great but requires a bit more effort and time than some people care to invest.

I use this salt without any issues. Here is what I did........I initially mixed up a batch using the measurements according to the instructions and tested the water in my mixing container. It wasn't exactly where I needed it to be so I added a little bit more of each of the solutions and tested again and repeated this until I had the desired results. Once I found the measurements I needed for each part to get my desired results, I just use the same measurements on each water change and the results are always the same. No need to adjust each water change to bring it up to the levels I want like I had to with the inconsistencies from other salts due to things settling in the bucket.

there are people with awesome reefs using regular IO, IO reef crystals, h20, esv etc. the salt does not make the reefer; proper husbandry does though. That being said, esv is always spot on and it is my choice hands down. sometimes you get what you pay for and the extra minute it takes me to make the esv is worth it, but in the end people have had success with a lot of salt brands, some are just not as accurate and require more dosing or testing. just my .02 cents.

Im still trying to find the face on my corals so im having trouble noticing whether or not they are happy lol my stuff is growing very well Thanks to h2o ...... And oxy clean

I like this salt and since I started using it I have no residue to clean AT ALL in my mixing tank. I have used Tropic Marin Pro and Coral Life and I will not go back. Take your time testing and calculating the first batch and duplicate it. Really isnt Rocket Science.

Just bought my first box of ESV. Just wondering if people calculate by weight and if the mixing suggestions for the measuring cups are reliable
