Oh man, I can barely contain my excitement waiting on this build... Why would your wife not want the largest tank you could fit in to that basement? I'd never leave the basement if I were her.... I agree with Ed on this one ... that basement is screaming 1200G+ tank. If your wife forces you to live down there for a while, that would be a plus no?

I would stay with a 180g corner overflows for a FOWLR angel and butterfly tank or a
250g marinelnad deep tank with nice furniture, and deep dims. You can setup a sick reef with dims of 60 x 37 x 27. Here is the link:

i had a 140 for a year...then upgraded to a 240....and 6 months later upgraded to a 500...bigger is better...try to plan it out and do it once ..it is a big space to fill ...i already want a bigger tank....if i had the money right now i would do a 1000 plus.....no skirt wearing in this house....lol....good luck with everything.....it will all work out ...take your time...
