Is it possible yes. Chances of them nipping (as you found out) is very high. If he is destroying your coral I would get rid of him, unless you REALLY want to keep the fish, but past that ... are you going to trick the fish to prevent him or any other angels for that matter from nipping ... no.
It's or miss with angels, I know of people that keep them in a reef tank with no issues. But yours is already displaying bad behavior towards your polyps. So basically you need to decide weather or not to keep it. Just got rid of my queen angel for the same reason.

There are a few angels that are much less likely to eat coral. I have a bellus angel and she never nips at anything except the food I feed her. Awesome fish.
