want to know what size canister filter for 160 g tank

I just bought a used 160 gallon custom tank and am trying to figure out what gph pumps for intake and out take I should have for fish only and if I planned on some simpler coral in the future what would be recommended. Also my fish have been doing good. They are very active and kicking some ich ass. I have no plans of moving them out of qt for atleast 5 more weeks.

Most people recommend that the filter be able to turn over the water in the tank 5-6 times per hour (personally I like to go overboard with filtration and have my tanks at 8-10). With a 160 like yours you should be going for something with a flow rate of at least 800 gph. It's better to get two canisters than one really powerful one.

Thank you. I just bought a 9 mag. Running plumbing straight down to pump. Putting sump along side of tank for easy access. Also installing a ball valve

I would get two canisters that add up to eight to ten times turnover. Change out media one at a time.

use a sump and use that for filtration. run your filtration from that.. u only need abt 1200gph turn over in that case and then use some sort of wavemaker, like hydors or mp40 to create your 10x turn over for current.
