Bro, thats why its crucial to quarantine the livestock before you place them in your main tank. It doesnt matter where you bought it. ALWAYS QUARANTINE! What i did when my tank outbroke with ich (because of the same mistake) i took out all the fish, started a quarantine take, added a uv light and powerhead with sponge, slowly and i mean very slowly put the quarantine tank to 10ppt (1.008 gravity), held it there for about 2 weeks with the livestock in it, then once again very slowly brought it back to 1.025. After all of this, i left them(fish) in there for about a month since the life cycle of the ich parasite cant live without a host longer than a month. I have not had any problems eversince.

Sorry to hear, but several of the chains frequently seem to have trouble with their saltwater fish. They never look too perky; they are mislabeled. Would be careful about getting fish from there.

As mentioned above, QT important (but I've skipped it before too).

Sorry to hear that. You have some work to do as well. I had this problem happen to me before(others putting fish in my tanks). Best bet from my experience is QT the fish and use hypo salinity treatment. Please note Marine Ick is a pesky parasite, it can stay in a fish for up to six months so please use a reasonable size tub or tank, you my need lights can use cheapo ones since it is for the fish even regular PC bulbs. Now for the main tank. If your tank is reef you will have to look in to how low salinity levels your corals can handle and drop as needed will need ta try to starve the parasites. You will need to do more research. I have used Kordan Ick Attack to treat the parasites in the tank while I had my fish in QT, It worked pretty well note I have not tested on a reef tank so again please do your research. Also a Diatom filter can help remove the free floating organic compounds and bacteria from the water.

Best Regards,
V......

Stay away from livestock at chain stores.
Only get buy from stores that know what they are doing.

I knew a guy who ran a large pet store fish department and he was great at what he did. Unfortunately the rest of the store did not and they would mess everything up.

Seriously, stay away from them.

+1 Chain stores are terrible they will let anyone work there without any experience at all, pet land is probably the worst one. They always have ich. I have personally seen the workers just dumping fish in the tanks shipping water and all out of the box and into the tank. It was horrible.

Is this a reef tank? If so - DO NOT USE THAT PRODUCT IN THERE!!!!!!!!!!!!
You CANNOT add a copper based product to a reef tank.

To use copper as a treatment for Ich, you need to do it in a QT tank after you have moved all of the fish there.

Kordan Ich Attack does NOT kill the Ich parasite - it only irritates the skin of the fish so it is HOPED the parasite will not reattach. It is a waste of money.
You also CANNOT use Hyposalinity in a reef tank, it WILL kill the corals as they cannot deal with the level of 1.009 which is how low it needs to go (and stay) to kill off the Ich.

Always QT your fish. You only need a 5 or 10 gallon tank, which is like $10. Just get a filter, heater and ich is nothing that a little of Melafix or Pimafix can't fix. You can get those over the counter at petland or petco.. just about any fish store.

I've read some success stories of Kordan Ich Attack, but for me... it was literally the opposite, it was more like "Attack of the Ichs"... go with Pimafix... it's cheap and works well. Hyposalinity or fresh water dip if fine, but you need to get your pH right, might be a problem for the inexperienced.

I don't want to sidetrack the current warnings so I'm just going to quote Kathy before adding my input to the original comments.

That said, don't buy from Petland unless you want to learn how to treat fish diseases...you will be very lucky to get a fish from there that isn't carrying at least ich. I know because I worked there one summer before I quit. The manager that I worked for ordered marine fish and invertebrates without having any idea about their needs, only caring about the final profit and sale. They might as well have been kitty litter to him. I never saw a single coral he bought do well and I'm pretty sure like 50-70% of the fish from a new shipment died before being sold. Those are the lucky guys actually because the rest are doomed to malnourishment on a diet of brine shrimp.

The customers that buy the marine livestock from them are also woefully ignorant because they're never educated by the ignorant staff who have no idea about the difference in care between fresh and saltwater other than one has salt and the other doesn't. I have no idea what system they use to order their livestock...it's like they have giant roulette wheel with various sea creatures listed at random and just pick them at random. They haven't changed at all the last couple of times I went there to buy basic supplies. They still stuff tangs and copperband butterflies into like a 10 gallon tank and still sell nudibranchs. One time I went they had anemones and crinoids for sale in a display tank with NO fluorescent lighting, which were all gone (I assume dead) the next time I checked a week later.

I've always wished there was some way to boycott them or at least stop their practices with marine livestock. I felt so bad when I traded my Green spotted puffer that I had for a year for store credit and saw the manager just dump him straight into a saltwater tank. I'd rather buy from Petco actually than Petland any day.

+1 on not buying from Petland.

-1 on rather buy from Petco.

There are no department store type LFS that have any knowledge about saltwater. I assume they think that because the freshwater fish stay alive then saltwater is not a problem either.
It seems that decisions made high up in their organization are made without regard to the actual conditions of the livestock. If they were they would leave salftwater to the specialists.

petco isn't any better. I was ther a while ago and talking to the dog groomer and he knows more about fish than any of the the guys that sell the fish. and i fish a bout there a while ago actually wiped out my whole tank. that was before i knew better.

Petland isn't good for freshwater fish either. The help at Petland may be sweet, but they know nothing. I'm constantly giving the staff at the local petland advice on keeping their reptiles. Fortunately, all the Petlands near me gave up on SW many years ago.
