If you get Fiji rock that's very porous which also makes it lighter you use 1-1 1/2 lbs. per gallon If you use a rock that's more dense like a slab rock you need to go closer to 2 lbs. per gallon. Not many people use dense rock anynore that I've seen. We mostly use fiji, marco, BRS pukani which are all along the lines of fiji density wise. Hope this helps
