I was reading about this stuff and it advertises to be a really good way to export nutrients when combined with caulerpa. What would you experienced reefers recommend to put into the refugium section of my sump that works the best?

Many already use macroalgae for nutrient export w/o using this product so it's not necessary. Chaeto would be the best since it doesn't go sexual like caulerpa sp. can.

Having seen some tanks with a mud product I am convinced enough to try it out though.

I'm looking to get the Walt Smith Fiji mud instead. It's supposed to release minerals and too.

I have a small hang on fuge with no mud product and my macro algae growth isn't that great though the tank's water quality is pretty clean, I don't feed often since I have 4 fish.

I've been using it for a few years now and I am a fan of it. I have run Ecosystems sumps on a few of my tanks but I've run Ecosystems mud on all of my fuges. I could be wrong but I think you're only supposed to replace 50% of it every 2 years but it's been a while since I've checked.

Randy Holmes (I thinik it was him)...says that it is not a great product. You'd have to google it up tho to be sure. He knows a lot more than most but I like the stuff.

Lol... I don't know the guy youre talking about. I think i got his name right... I'm not at my laptop at the moment to do an easier search but he is in the reef community and imo posts hard fact based on scientific findings . I will check later tho. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

Another cool thing that they alledge is being able to run a full blown SPS system "skimmerless" because of their mud without crazy counter measures to compensate for not having a skimmer. They also say that if you run mud and still use a skimmer that you never allow the mud to fully do it's job. But they also offer their sumps with factory skimmer options :::contradictory IMO:::

Again, at the end of the day, it always worked well for me. I've used just sand and have had good results as well and I've never used any of the other muds.
