I will say that me installing a UV sterilizer during the cycling process has delayed my cycle.. I have a 30 Gallon tank and its now about 3 months old... Took out the UV Sterilizer and now Tank seems to be magically cycled after 4 days removed. I have done reserach on this matter and lots of experts state that it wont effect it and some say it will. I believe it did. I would suggest removing it to anyone that starting up a tank.

I was asking lot of questions about UVs not to long ago and after reading so much and having MR members comment found it that UVs are best if your just looking to clean up your water of some type of parasite so in the long run not really needed would help with ich but then you need to know how much water to run thru it and how long best bet is doing good water changes and watch howmuch you feed and a UV will never be needed now this is only M.O once your up and running please let me know if the UV really helped or not

Ive haven't used a uv for more than 5 yrs . Besides they're hit or miss for controlling parasites. The parasite first has to pass through and at the right speed for it to work
