Hello ...

I started my hobby last weekend. I have a 29 Gal bio Cube. It has been cycling since the 9th of sept. And can't wait to start adding fish.

I had a fresh water tank before but always wanted a saltwater. But just never had the time. So now I guess I have the time..lol

I have taken pic but nothing to exciting yet..

On and I am from Jersey..

Welcome to the club
Do yourself a favor take it very slow read and research as much as possible oh and the most important thing is to take it SLOW!!!
It is a very rewarding hobby if you do it right.. On the other hand one little slip up and thousands of dollars down the drain..
You will have many ups and downs just know that there are plenty of people out there that will lend a hand at the drop of a dime...

What part of jersey?

Welcome to MR.

Like stated above. Take your time. You will see that it is the most important thing. Other than that, RO/DI is the second most important.

Keep us updated on your tank. Maybe make a tank thread in the proper forum.

Nice to see more people from NJ. Where in NJ??

I live up in Sussex County. But work all over Jersey. Last week was working in GSP mall in Bergen County. When I am down that way I stop by the Reef something. Its in Hackensack by Little Ferry..

I have been doing my homework so to speak. Taken it slow is the way to go. Its not a hobby you can rush..
Thanks for the hints and the welcomes..

What are you thinking about what type of fish you want? Second how many fish are you planning? Just to give and idea percula clownfish, firefish. Some might tell you dwarf angel fish. But should be in a bigger tank.. Shrimps are cool in small tanks. Do some research before you buy. Good luck.... Before you know it you are going to want a bigger tank...:type::type:

Good Luck. Im in NJ also, Bergen County. As everyone mentioned with patience comes beauty so take it one day at a time. I would start with a hardy species like damsel fish, clowns are good to begin with. If you are thinking of designer clowns which are now very expensive, start with maybe a small zoanthid frag and/or a small goby and see how they do.

Thanks for the replys.. I was thinking for my bio a amon and two percula clownfish. That i already spoke to the lfs about. He has been a big help so far.So just a few fish, frags, coral, This is going to be a reef tank.
I will be picking up a friends 40 gal SW tank with in a week. Its running now with 3 clowns and other critters.
Now that word is getting out that I am in to SW. Ppl are asking me about their tanks and offering them to me, Because they dont have the time..
So there might be a over load of stuff.

Welcome!

I would stay away from the Damsels. They can/will become territorial, and are a horror to remove without taking your set up apart.

Best wishes on a healthy, thriving tank.;)

Reef encounters is ok, they get some rare items from time to time. The staff needs some more training as most of them know the common everyday fish and corals, but they didn't know what a Singapore angel was. Also one employee was grabbing a 3 foot eel with his bare hands, he will get bit soon. Good luck with your tank and try absolutely fish, more choices and a more knowledgable staff.

Yes I agree.. I like to stop in at Reef when I am down there. Lot of cool stuff.
Like Absolutely Fish. The staff is friendly there.
