Sounds funny but check out the liveaquaria.com site for purchasing corals. They give a brief description of the corals, temperment, level of difficulty and basic parameters needed..

Ask around which corals may be for you and Im sure the answers will be similar with which corals to start with..

Like most beginners you'll probably wanna start with Softies, Zoanthids and Mushrooms. As you start to feel more comfortable and your tank matures you'll move into LPS and eventually, (If your really good at balancing your tank parameters and are really dedicated) move into the harder SPS.

Good Luck!!

Hey Frankie,

Here are the books that I've read to prepare for my setup(currently setting up a 125 gallon fish, live rock, inverts).

The Reef Aquarium Vol. 3 by Delbeek and Sprung
The Conscientious Marine Aquarist by Fenner
The Marine Reef Aquarium by Hunt
The New Marine Aquarium by Paletta
Saltwater Aquarium Models by Tullock

I am constantly referring to the first two the most. The Reef Vol 3 devotes an entire chapter to plumbing. Its been a godsend for me because I don't know squat about plumbing.

In addition to the books, I've checked out the Bulk Reef Supply and King of DIY videos on youtube and I've learned a ton by reading and asking questions on MR.

Hope that helps. Good luck with your setup!

Frankie, starting with books will get you everywhere in this hobby.

Knowledge + a little patience = success

I started with
The Conscientious Marine Aquarist and highly recommend The Reef Aquarium Vol. 3 by Delbeek and Sprung as well.

60 Bucks is a steal. Worth it's weight in gold.
