Being new to the site (and aquariums) just wanted to pop in and say hello, I'm sure I will be asking dumb questions and a friend of mine said this was the place to do it.

To give you a idea of what I have. All hand-me-downs from my father who had kept a saltwater tank for many years but gave it up after losing his stock.

75g tank, Little Giant 5md pump (which has been driving me crazy to fix), 250w heater, and Eheim protein skimmer.

The filter consists of the return going to the base (which acts as the sump) through a spray bar into three rows of drip trays. I forget the actual name of the system that he said it was but he said most people probably wouldn't know it now a days.

At the moment I have just been focusing of getting everything setup and working before I jump the gun and start picking out things I might want to add to the tank.

I know most of the stuff I have is old and the new stuff makes everything so much easier but at the moment I have to work with what I have and slowly replace things I can afford.

But I do admire all the tanks that I have seen on this site and I am determined to get there one day!

So with that again I say hello and hope to talk to you all soon.

Thanks for all the welcoming guys!! Just a quick updated: Got frustrated trying to fix the old pump and just ordered a eheim 1262. I just hope its enough as my biggest learning curve so far has been trying to figure out
GPH vs size of the tank:irked:

Welcome Sanman. I started out like you with a HOB OF & wet/dry filtration. As long as you keep your water quality up and parameters consistent you should be fine. I would invest in a RODI system. Starting off w/good water is important. Lots of knowledge & help on MR - so use it & good luck.

Welcome to the MR family!!!!

Do yourself, and your reef a huge favor, and get an RO/DI before you even think of putting water in the tank.;) That plus good maintenance practice will be your reef's best friend.;)

Hey man, welcome! I'm new here too, and so far everyone's been quite nice. But I was told this is a great forum, which is why I registered.
I like your tank, I wish I had one that big.
I hope you post pics every step of the way.

Your best bet is to check out members tank with the different lighting choices you are thinking about. There is so much debate on that topic and you will get a bunch of diff. Answers bit your eyes dont deviate from the truth.
