hey guys my tank has been up for almost a year now. i have been neglecting the tank for a lil while but still doing my water changes every 2-3 weeks or so.

i have gotten this purple slime that covered all my rocks. i didn tknow what it was so ileft it thining it would go away but it just spread and covered everything. i finally took a razor and cut it off the rocks and it is like a piece of skin which you peel off the rock. i removed as much as i could from all my rocks now and threw it into my filter sock. now that most of it is gone i see there are alot of brown algae around where the purple slime stuff was. i cant peel that off though. can someone tell me how i can get rid of this stuff?

thanks

also can someone tell me what exactly this stuff is? the purple slime skin algae and the brown algae i have??

Check your phosphates and get a phosban reactor with good quality phosban media
Cut back on your feeding
Get a bigger skimmer
Use rodi water
Shut lights off for 3 days

just recently changed my gfo out for new batch(BRS). i have the brs dual reactor.

i feed once a day on weekdays and 2 times a day on the weekends.

my skimmer is rated for 120 gallons my tank is a 50 rimless with a sump of maybe 5-10 gallons?

i have always used ro/di water

i will try to shut off the lights for 3 days never done that yet. is that a temporary fix or should it help drastically?

thanks!

also wanted to note there are air bubbles next to the brown algae that is an eye sore. alot of floating waste has come out of my tank in recent weeks not usre if my flow is not strong enough but it just floats in my discplay tank and i have to scoop it into my overflow with a paddle of some sort. looks horrible. not really sure where it comes from.

cleaned my skimmer this weekend and alot of the algae that are stuck to the rocks are slowly peeling off by itself. will all of it continue to peel off eventually with proper maintenance?

Keep doing maintence n up your water changes and you should be ok :) siohon out all that brown and red algae when you are doing water changes. Also if you take a turkey baster and stick it in the holes of the rock and blow the garbage out that helps as well before doing a water change
