One polyp is not a big deal. What fish are in the tank? I have my clown fish which every other day they bite off a polyp from either my torch, frogspawn, and 2x hammer colonies. It could be the clown fish may be interested in hosting the hammer. Keep an eye on them I am guessing they are the cause.

basiab- Yeah he definitely hates the mushrooms near him, but I'm so afraid of moving him. It's like I have to pick a poison! Do any exerienced reef keepers live near upper east side that would want to help me with my tank in general? Almost every single rock has mushrooms on it. The other thing is that I have him there just bc there is too much water flow in the sand (even though its a bit further down) and eventually I want to put him somewhere else but need to glue down defintely. Does anyone have experience with gluing coral down?

Im on 80th & 1st. I can help if needed.
I think you're over reacting. One/once is fine. If it happens a lot it is an issue. If you see bright white skeleton its an issue (white skeleton means it just became exposed and that tissue receded)

Rookie, we are neighbors! I am on 76 and 1st! I know I am overreacting. Chunk (my hammer) seemed happy as can be yesterday and today, but I feel like I need a Mr. Miyagi with this stuff. I feel nervous because this isn't a hobby like cooking or reading. We are trying to keep living organisms alive and not just alive, but happy and thriving and I take it as a big honor/responsibility. So if you would like to hop over and take a look/give me advice I would appreciate that and repay your kindness with a Corona or two Also, is that big tank in your profile picture yours? It's so amazing! Do you ever sell frags?

I guess I should of captioned the picture with "update: happy healthy coral!" Mr. Herman McClaw, so far knock on wood, is quite the star of my tank. He has steadily consumed the green hair algae in the tank, comes out demanding food, doesn't bother my corals/fish, and has recently taken to sitting under the hammer (protection?) I will say that in the first week or two of having him I did not feed him individually and I do think he was picking at my pagoda cup, but ever since I feed him individually (a piece of shrimp or fish or seaweed) ever day or other day, he has molted and vamped up his clean up crew job and doesn't bother the pagoda. I've read that some people think crabs are evil so i don't know if he is the exception or if they actually are reef save if you target feed them here and there. Also, Im super lucky because he is out all day long and not very shy.

So How big do these guys get? Will there come a time where he will see my fire fish, cleaner shrimp, or Pygmy angel as a snack?

Been thinking of a strawberry crab. Anyone have experience with keeping both together? I have a 34 gallon so it's not like they won't run into each other every day!
