I decided to try the Gurgle Buster and it works great. Completely took care of the overflow noise BUT, it is taking more water out of the sump and the water level in the display rises over the overflow boxes to the point where i have to shut off the pump because i'm afraid its gonna flood the display tank. This leads me to believe that the water is not draining back into the sump fast enough?? I followed the instructions and drilled 5 1/2" holes in the pipe. Has anyone experienced this before? Should I try drilling additional holes? Also, the adjusting coupling is as far down as it can go so not sure what else can be down.

What size pump do you have? It sounds like you have too much flow from the pump going into the DT. Did this happen before the Gurgle Buster? If not seems like the GB is hampering the flow back to the sump.

I have no experience with the GB, but is there different models? If not you may need to just dial down your main pump.

Thanks for the reply. I'm using an Iwaki MD 55RLT external. I was using Durso's previously and it handled everything fine but I was dealing with noisy waterfall sounds in the overflow boxes. I drilled the durso's all the way to 1/2" and it didnt help so I decided to try the Gurgle Buster. I would love to figure this out because it is working great as far as the sound goes.

The simplest fix for gurgling(flushing) with an overflow is a series of small holes added to the original hole the standpipe is equipped with. Each hole added will cut it down a bit until you get the balance just right.

All of these products may work great for some, not so great for others. The holes in the standpipe always works and if you drill one too many holes you can plug it with silicon.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Like I said, the Durso seemed to handle the drainage fine but I had to deal with the waterfall sounds. The Gurgle Buster was good in that it increased the water level in the overflows which stopped the waterfall but could not keep up with the drainage. I'm gonna try the Gurgle Buster design but using the Durso-sized pipe (I think it's 1 1/2") and see if that works. If not, back to the drawing board!

You could add a ball valve and throttle back the pump.

Jaa, Thanks for the reply.

I've got a true union on the pump. I've been trying to avoid throttling back the pump because I'm afraid of damaging the pump or adding pressure to the pipes. Not sure if these are legit concerns or not. I'm also concerned about flow. I may end up going that route if the bigger Gurgle Buster does not work.

The only time you'll damage the pump is if you starve it of water with a ball valve on the intake. You can throttle back the outlet side with 0 issues. Also the added pressure will come nowhere near the pressure it would take to harm the piping.

Jimmy, thanks very much for the input! Definitely makes me feel better about the throttling back the pump. If my Gurgle Buster idea does not work, I'm gonna put a gate valve at the pump outlet and try throttling it back.
